description

In the valley of the Rieglersbach, a three-sided, up to four meters deep and up to 15 meters wide moat is visible on the western bank . The moat connects directly to the Rieglersbach and surrounds a destroyed castle core that is around 35 by 55 meters today. Buildings are no longer available. Remnants of the foundations to the south with a size of around 25 by 55 35 meters have completely disappeared. They were still recognizable in the 19th century. The north and south parts of the castle are separated by the stream.

history

The castle was first mentioned in 1369 as the seat of Heinrich von Wallenrod . In 1420 an Albrecht von Wallenrod "zu Pucheck" was mentioned. In 1440 Albrecht sold his goods, which belonged to the "seat and dwelling in Bucheck". This document shows that the castle was abandoned in 1440. In 1467 the castle came into the possession of the Lords of Sparneck . In 1550 they sold Bucheck together with a large part of their imperial fiefs to Margrave Albrecht von Brandenburg-Kulmbach . In 1604 the complex was already known as the "Old Castle".
