Emtmannsberg Castle

The Emtmannsberg Castle is a largely preserved castle in Emtmannsberg (Schlosshof 14/16) in the Bayreuth district in Bavaria .

The castle as it stands today was built by Baron Erdmann von Stein . The lords of Trautenberg , the lords of Schaumberg , the lords of Künsberg and the municipality of Emtmannsberg are named as other owners . Today the castle is owned by the municipality.

The original castle was a three-wing complex with a two-story main building with 15 upper floor windows with a hipped roof and a central building with a baroque roof turret and portal risalit .

history

In the beginning, Emtmannsberg Castle was probably a tower hill , which was enclosed with a moat. Later this was expanded into a moated castle or a moated castle . This was probably done because of power struggles in the 11th century around Creußen.

Foundations of the original moated castle exposed during construction work.

The name "Scharffeck" is passed down and the first owner is Eberhard 2. von Kindberg ( Künsberg ) in the 13th century.

Today's castle stands at the point where the outbuildings of the moated castle used to stand. At the time, however, these were moved further back (i.e. in the direction of the moated castle). Because the castle was built further south into the village during the reconstruction. The evidence for this are old wooden gratings, which are in the ground area of earlier buildings that were found during excavation work for water pipes.

The moated castle probably burned down very early. In the Emtmannsberg book it says "In 1579, on November 23rd, Georg von Schaumberg's Scharffecken castle burned down to the ground."

In 1608 Georg von Schaumberg passed the castle on to his sons Jobst Sigmund and Hans.

Owner of Emtmannsberg Castle

In the course of time the castle had many owners, but there was never a noble family "von Emtmannsberg".

The first mentioned owners of the castle are the von Künsberg descendants of the Plassenberg family .

From 1223 to 1244 the castle belonged to Eberhard 2nd von Kindberc (Künsberg), later the castle went to Eberhard 3rd on Kindberg and Emtmannsberg (1280-1295) and finally Fríedrich 1st on Emtmannsberg (1322-1362).
