The John the Baptist consecrated listed Roman Catholic Church of St. John the Baptist is part of the parish of St. Mary Magdalene in Leinefelde in the deanery Leinefelde-Worbis in the Diocese of Erfurt . It is in Wingerode , a municipality in the Thuringian district of Eichsfeld .

The romanized hall church made of ashlar with five axes of the nave was built in 1866-69 in place of the predecessor from 1688, of which the lower part of the plastered choir has been preserved. The inauguration took place on June 13, 1869 by Konrad Martin . The retracted choir has a polygonal termination in the east. It was only in 1876 that the bell tower with its eight-sided pointed slate-covered helmet between triangular gables next to the choir on the south side above the previous sacristybe built because the building ground was not stable at the originally intended location . The two upper floors of the bell tower are by Kappgesimse structured and have Biforien . The church bell from 1585 has also been preserved from the previous building . Leaning against the bell tower and the nave is a low stair tower . The facade in the west has pillars with pinnacles at the corners , an arched frieze in the gable and a central round window with quatrefoil . The portal in a round-arched garment is covered by an eyelash with pinnacles.

The nave has an open roof , the choir is spanned with a flat ceiling with vaulted ribs on consoles . The galleries were renewed in 1992. The choir is separated from the nave by a round triumphal arch . The baroque high altar from 1718 was moved here from Beuren Abbey in 1815 . The altarpiece shows a representation of the Lord's Supper . To the left and right in shell-shaped niches are wooden figures of Bernhard von Clairvaux and Benedikt von Nursia . The tabernacle is shaped like a temple. A Pietà dates from the early 16th century. Four stained glass windows from the early 20th century show depictions of Notburga , Bonifatius , Anna and Ignatius . The organ with 26 registers , divided into 2 manuals and a pedal , was built in 1992 by Alexander Schuke .
