Location of quarry in Bavaria

Quarry is a district of the town of Treuchtlingen in the central Franconian district of Weißenburg-Gunzenhausen .

Location, traffic

The place is located in the southern Franconian Jura southwest of Treuchtlingen and northwest of the Haag district of Treuchtlingen , south of the Möhrenbach valley on the Albhöhe about 460 meters above sea level . A connecting road branches off from state road 2217 in Möhrenbachtal between Schürmühle and Mattenmühle , which leads to the district of Steinbruch and on to Rehlingen , a district of Langenaltheim .

history

The district was built around 1900 as a "house at the quarry". By the 1980s, in addition to a Jurassic quarry, an entire complex of buildings had been built, which the "Treuchtlinger Marmorwerke" founded in 1911 as a stock corporation (a GmbH since 1993) used for administration purposes. In the course of the Donauwörth – Treuchtlingen railway line , which was built through the Möhrenbachtal until 1906 , the plant received its own siding. In 1950 23 people lived here. In 1961 there were twelve residents who were parish in the Evangelical Lutheran parish of Rehlingen and whose children also went to school there. By the 1980s at the latest, the complex was no longer used for residential purposes.

The former district of Haag near Treuchtlingen (name addition since 1927) was incorporated into Treuchtlingen as part of the regional reform in Bavaria from 1972. A smaller part of this community came to Langenaltheim. After the marble works were abandoned, a workshop has been used by a non-profit association as a practice area for musicians and bands since the mid-1990s; rock festivals are also held here.
