Stephen Farrelly (born January 28, 1978 in Dublin ), known by his ring name Sheamus ( ˈʃeɪməs ), is an Irish wrestler and actor who is under contract with the WWE and regularly appears on their show SmackDown . He received a total of four times the highest title in the league.

Early years

Farrelly was born in Cabra, Dublin and grew up on North Great George's Street in Dublin. He is fluent in Irish due to his attendance at Scoil Caoimhin Primary and Secondary School, a Gaelscoil. He was in the Palestrina Choir until he was 13. He played Gaelic football for the Erin's Isle team and rugby for the National College of Ireland. Farrelly also served as the bodyguard of Bono and Larry Mullen, Jr. of U2, and Denise van Outen. Farrelly is a trained IT technician . His father, Mark, was an amateur bodybuilder . He is an avowed fan of Liverpool FC , Borussia Dortmund and Celtic Glasgow .

Wrestling career

Beginnings

Farrelly began in 2002 with the wrestling . However, he quickly had to take a break for almost two years after suffering a neck injury. From May 2004 Farrelly stood for two years with Irish Whip Wrestling in the ring, where he was also involved in matches with Raven and Drew Galloway . From 2005 to 2007 he was also seen in the British independent scene, where he denied 2006 and 2007 tryouts at the WWE .

World Wrestling Entertainment (since 2007)

Florida Championship Wrestling (2007-2009)

From this Farrelly was finally signed in 2007 and first appeared in the WWE Training League Florida Championship Wrestling . There he made his debut on October 3, 2007 and was allowed to win the FCW Florida Heavyweight Championship there .

WWE Champion and King of the Ring (2009-2011)

Farrelly made his debut on WWE TV in the June 30, 2009 issue of ECW. So he was initially part of the ECW rooster and feuded there against Goldust and Shelton Benjamin . On October 26th, 2009 he switched to RAW . There were a few matches before he is already on 13 December of the same year at the pay-per-view WWE TLC: Tables, Ladders & Chairs the WWE Championship from John Cena could win. The following night at RAW, Farrelly received the Slammy Award in the Breakout Superstar of the Year (2009) category. On February 21, 2010 he had to give up the title at the Pay-per-View Elimination Chamber back to John Cena. During the match, Farrelly suffered a traumatic brain injury and had to take a short break. On his return he attacked Triple H , which led to a match between the two at WrestleMania XXVI , which he lost.

On June 20, at the pay-per-view Fatal 4-Way , Farrelly won a Fatal 4-Way match against John Cena, Randy Orton and Edge and thus received the WWE Champion title for the second time. At Night of Champions on September 19, 2010, he had to surrender the title to Randy Orton. On November 29, 2010 he was allowed to win the King of the Ring tournament at RAW after defeating John Morrison , Kofi Kingston and R-Truth a week earlier . On March 14, 2011 , Farrelly won the WWE United States Championship in a match against Daniel Bryan , putting aside the gimmick of King Sheamus.

Royal Rumble Victory and World Heavyweight Champion (2011-2014)

At the WWE Draft on April 26, 2011, he was switched to SmackDown . He then lost the WWE United States Championship to Kofi Kingston in a tables match at PPV Extreme Rules on May 1, 2011 . He then feuded against Randy Orton, Mark Henry and Christian .

On January 29, 2012, Farrelly won the 25th Royal Rumble Match. At WrestleMania XXVIII on April 1, 2012 in Miami he won the World Heavyweight Championship from Daniel Bryan, which he lost to Big Show on October 28, 2012 at the "Hell in a Cell" event . He has since feuded with The Shield, Big Show and Damien Sandow. On July 14, 2013, he tore the lip of cartilage in his left shoulder when he fell through a ladder at the PPV Money in the Bank . At the 2014 Royal Rumble, Sheamus returned to the WWE after a 6-month injury hiatus. On May 5, 2014, he again won the WWE United States Championship. On November 3, 2014, Sheamus lost his United States title to Rusev, who defeated him with a submission grip. As of November 2014, he took a break due to an injury.

The League of Nations (2015-2016)

On March 30, 2015, Sheamus returned to RAW and started a feud against Dolph Ziggler. On June 14, 2015, he won the Money in the Bank Ladder Match, which, according to the storyline, guarantees him a title match for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at any time within a year . On November 22, 2015, Farrelly redeemed the Money in the Bank contract at the Survivor Series 2015 and became the new WWE World Heavyweight Champion . Sheamus lost the WWE World Heavyweight Championship to Roman Reigns on December 14, 2015 on Raw .

Feud with Cesaro and The Bar (2016-2019)

Sheamus was drafted into the RAW roster at the WWE Draft, which was carried out for the first time since 2011 on July 19, 2016. Following the draft, he began a feud against Cesaro . In the following period, the two contested a best-of-7 match series, which began with SummerSlam and ended with the PPV Clash of Champions . The last clash, however, ended unsuccessfully as both men were no longer able to continue the fight. The following evening at RAW, General Manager Mick Foley put him and Cesaro together to form a tag team. After several victories, the two won the WWE Raw Tag Team Championship from The New Day at the PPV Roadblock: End of the Line . They lost the title to Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows at the Royal Rumble on January 29, 2017 . On June 4, 2017 at Extreme Rules , he and Cesaro tagged the WWE Raw Tag Team Championship for the second time after defeating the Hardy Boyz in a steel cage match . This reign lasted for 77 days and ultimately lost the title to The Shield Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose on August 20, 2017 at Summerslam. On November 6, 2017, Sheamus and Cesaro were able to secure the WWE Raw Tag Team Championship for the third time by defeating their former titleholders The Shield Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose. On January 28, 2018 he won the Raw Tag Team Championship from Seth Rollins and Jason Jordan for the fourth time at the Royal Rumble, together with Cesaro. The reign lasted 70 days and then lost the title at WrestleMania 34 to Braun Strowman and his 11-year-old tag team partner Nicholas. As part of the Superstar Shake Up 2018, he and Cesaro drafted to SmackDown . They then won the WWE SmackDown Tag Team Championship from The New Day at the SmackDown 1000 edition on October 16, 2018 , this reign lasted 103 days and then lost the title to The Miz and Shane on January 27, 2019 at the WWE Royal Rumble McMahon . After that, Sheamus was no longer seen on the shows of WWE due to an injury as he suffered multiple concussions and struggled with neck pain.

Return to the shows (since 2019)

On November 29, 2019, Sheamus returned to SmackDown as part of a segment after a 10 month injury break . He made his in-ring comeback on January 26, 2020 at the WWE Royal Rumble . There he played a match against Shorty G , which he won.

Outside of wrestling

Farrelly played "Two Ton" in the British feature film The Escapist (2008), alongside actors Joseph Fiennes and Brian Cox . He had a small role in the Irish film 3 Crosses in 2006 and played the zombie of a Celtic warrior in the Irish horror film Assault of Darkness , which was produced in 2009 and starred Vinnie Jones . He also had a few appearances on Dustin the Turkey's Show Dustin's Daily News , where he started an argument with Dustin. It ended with a match between Dustin and Farrelly, which Dustin won. He also appeared on the Podge and Rodge Show as a leprechaun wrestler. In 2016, Farrelly played the role of "Rocksteady" in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows .

In the family film My WWE Main Event , Sheamus played a minor role as a guest referee.
