Steven Dubinsky (born July 9, 1970 in Montreal , Québec ) is a former Canadian ice hockey player who played 385 games for the Chicago Blackhawks , Calgary Flames , Nashville Predators and St. Louis Blues in the course of his active career between 1989 and 2003 National Hockey League (NHL) has contested on the position of the center . Dubinsky also played over 280 games in the minor leagues American Hockey League (AHL) and International Hockey League (IHL).

Career

Dubinsky spent his junior years - contrary to most of the Canadian junior players - at a university in the United States . Between 1989 and 1993, the striker studied at Clarkson University in New York State and played for the university team, the Golden Knights , in ECAC Hockey , a division in the game operations of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). During this time he won the ECAC division championship with the team in 1991 and 1993. In addition, the defensive attacker was selected after his first year in the NHL Entry Draft in 1990 in the eleventh round in 226th place by the Chicago Blackhawks from the National Hockey League (NHL). Within the four years at college Dubinsky was able to increase from 17 points scorer to a top score of 55 points in his third year. He finished his last year at university with 44 points.

By the 1993/94 season, the Canadian had completed his studies and had been signed by the Blackhawks. However, it was not until the beginning of his fifth season with the professionals before he could establish himself in the NHL and in the Chicago squad. Before that, in the four years between 1993 and 1997, he was always between the NHL roster of the Blackhawks and that of the farm team , the Indianapolis Ice , in the International Hockey League (IHL). He had completed most of his 91 NHL games to date in the 1995/96 season with 43. Dubinsky finally achieved his breakthrough in the 1997/98 game year , when he played all 82 games of the season for Chicago and also set a personal record of 18 scorer points. Nevertheless, the center forward could not continue his ascent in the Windy City , as he was transferred to the Calgary Flames in late October 1998 together with Jeff Shantz and in exchange for Marty McInnis , Jamie Allison and Erik Andersson . Dubinsky spent two seasons there, but missed large parts of the 1999/2000 millennium season as he only played 23 games due to a knee injury.

After the two seasons in the Olympic city in 1988, Dubinsky began to have unsteady years. As a free agent , he returned to the Chicago Blackhawks in August 2000. There he was still mainly part of the staff of the regular squad, but also found himself again and again in the AHL with the then cooperation partner Norfolk Admirals . In February 2002 he moved to the Nashville Predators via transfer after having been on the ice in 36 games with their farm team Milwaukee Admirals during the season. For Nashville it was used 26 times by the end of the season. During the summer break he then joined the St. Louis Blues - again as a free agent . In his final year in the NHL, he made 28 appearances for the Blues before his season ended prematurely in February 2003 due to a concussion . The 32-year-old never returned to the ice and eventually ended his active career.
