Straning-Grafenberg is a market town with 727 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020) in the Horn district in Lower Austria .
geography
Straning-Grafenberg is right on the border of the Weinviertel and Waldviertel in Lower Austria. The area of the market town covers 26.47 square kilometers. 7.5 percent of the area is forested.
Community structure
The municipality includes the following four localities (population in brackets as of January 1, 2020):
- Etzmannsdorf near Straning (113)
- Grafenberg (202)

- Wartberg (121)
The community consists of the cadastral communities Etzmannsdorf bei Straning, Grafenberg, Straning and Wartberg.
The community is a member of the small region of Manhartsberg .

history
Settlement can be traced in Straning from the early and middle Neolithic , the Bronze Age , the Hallstatt Age , the Roman Empire and from the 9th century. In the other cadastral communities , too , early settlements can be found, for example in Grafenberg from the Urnfield Period and the Latène Period . Excavation finds from all epochs are in the Krahuletz Museum in Eggenburg and in the Höbarthmuseum in Horn .
The first written mention of Straning can be found in a document dated July 11, 1239 from Melk Abbey , which reports on the sale of goods in Straning to Baumgartenberg Abbey .
The last verifiable document on Margarete von Babenberg comes from the year 1266 . In it, the village of Grafenberg is donated from the parish Parish Eggenburg to the Lilienfeld monastery . Margarete had chosen this monastery as her burial place.
Population development
The population decline has flattened out since 1991. Since then, the birth balance has been negative, the migration balance mostly positive.

Natural monuments
- To the north of Grafenberg is the Fehhaube-Kogelsteine nature reserve with interesting granite rock formations and dry silicate lawns that are important for nature conservation.
economy
In 2010 there were 68 agricultural and forestry holdings, of which 43 were full-time farms. These farmed 91 percent of the area. The manufacturing sector is poorly developed, with only five employees. In the service sector, 25 companies employ 50 people.
education
There is a kindergarten and a primary school in Straning-Grafenberg.
