Röhrenbach is a municipality with 522 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020) in the Horn district in Lower Austria .
geography
The Zeilendorf Röhrenbach is located on the western edge of the Horner Basin in the Waldviertel in Lower Austria. The area of the municipality covers 25.11 km² . 16.74% of the area is forested.

history
Neolithic finds have been made in the municipality . The Feinfeld cadastral community was first mentioned in a document around 1180 and was owned by the Kuefsteiner from 1414. The first documented mention of Germanns dates back to 1139, that of Neubau to 1285. Since the 14th century, the history of the place has been closely linked to the development of the original fortified castle of the Greillen family, which in 1534 became the property of Baron Johann Lorenz von Kuefstein and which was rebuilt in the last third of the 16th century as Greillenstein Castle in the Renaissance style.

With the decision of the Lower Austrian provincial government dated March 11, 1997, the municipality of Röhrenbach was awarded a municipal coat of arms. Its blazon : divided by a silver wavy bar diagonally to the right, below in blue two golden cattails growing from the lower right edge of the shield with four leaves each, above in green a two-storey silver renaissance castle with black windows, mighty, six-storey, with an onion bell roof Gate tower crowned with corner turrets with open gate. The municipality colors are blue-yellow-green.

The population has been decreasing for many decades, although emigration has been stopped in recent years.

Culture and sights
- Greillenstein Castle , built from 1570 to 1590, is a unique Renaissance building in the Waldviertel . There is an extensive landscaped garden in front of the four-wing complex. The castle was home to famous Austrian artists such as the painter Anton Romako and the writer Franz Grillparzer . The castle was spared from total destruction by Swedish, French, Prussian and Russian troops. It has housed permanent exhibitions open to the public since 1959.
- Catholic parish church Röhrenbach Maria Eich: The church is essentially Romanesque and was redesigned in the Gothic and Baroque periods . In the Gräflich Kuefsteinschen crypt chapel there are frescoes by Paul Troger .
- Feinfeld ruins : North-east of Feinfeld there is a castle ruin that was deserted in the 16th century.
economy
In 2010 there were 68 agricultural and forestry holdings in the municipality, 32 of which were full-time farms. In the manufacturing sector, six factories employed eighteen people, mainly in the manufacture of goods. The service sector employed 28 people in 16 companies.

- Road: Röhrenbach is connected to the Böhmerwald Straße (B38) by a municipal road.
- Bus: The PostBus bus company runs to several stops on the 1308 ( Horn - Zwettl ) line in Röhrenbach and its districts .
- Train: The closest ÖBB train station is Horn NÖ on the Kamptalbahn .
- Cycle path: The 115.6 km long Kamptal cycle path with its starting point in Altenwörth and its destination in Zwettl leads through Röhrenbach.
