action

The focus is on Max, a shy boy, the outsider in his class who is afraid of his parents getting divorced. The only escape from the real world is his colorful dreams. In them he travels with his imaginary friends Sharkboy and Lavagirl to the fictional planet Schleck (in the English original Drool ). There all his dreams come true. There is everything to eat that a child's eye could desire. But there is also Mr. Electric who threatens the dream world. When the two young superheroes Sharkboy and Lavagirl get into trouble despite their strength, Max's hour strikes: Only he can save them from Mr. Electric's fortress. Now the wild technical gadgets and the incredible gadgets that are always buzzing around in Max's head are paying off. He has the power to make his dreams a reality.

criticism

“With 'Adventures of Shark Boy and Lava Girl' he [Robert Rodriguez] created a crazy and action-packed children's film in 3D . His seven-year-old son Racer had the idea, but borrowings from ' The Wizard of Oz ', ' Charlie and the Chocolate Factory ', ' The Neverending Story ' and ' Harry Potter ' cannot be overlooked. "

- Carlo Avventi : Filmreporter.de

“The plot - if you like to call the sequence of video game-like action pieces that - is silly and confused. It doesn't harm the entertainment value of this fairground attraction, which is outsourced to the cinema. And technically the brightly colored spectacle is better (because it is hotter) than 'Spy Kids 3-D'. Conclusion: a cinematic visit to the fairground - fast-paced, garish, somewhat funny and full of surreal effects. Children find something like that cool, adults less so. "

“Neither in terms of content nor visually convincing children's film with an annoying video game dramaturgy. The characters and actions appear as unoriginal conglomerates of 'trashy' TV series and lack any charm. "
