The Greatest American was a ranking show that the Discovery Channel broadcast in association with AOL on June 5, 2005. The audience from the United States of America should choose their most important compatriots. Before that, on April 18, 2005, after a survey of the audience, the 100 nominees were announced as Greatest American by AOL and the Discovery Channel.

A similar concept pursued in 2002 the program 100 Greatest Britons of the BBC .
