The One ( English for 'the one') is the 23rd studio album by British singer Elton John . It was originally released on June 23, 1992 and was re-released on May 31, 1998 with two bonus songs.

Cover design

The album cover shows a black and white photo of Elton John (photographed by Patrick Demarchelier ) looking at the viewer and clasping his hands. All around is a dark blue frame with gold decorations. The golden lettering Elton John and The One are above or below the photo . The design comes from Gianni Versace .

Production and guest posts

The One was produced by the English music producer Chris Thomas , with whom Elton John worked on previous albums. The album is dedicated to Elton John's companion Vance Buck .

The only guest appearance on the album comes from the British rock singer Eric Clapton , who can be heard on the song Runaway Train .

The One entered the German album charts at number 5 on June 29, 1992 and reached the top two weeks later, where it stayed for two weeks. Overall, the album was able to stay in the top 100 for 33 weeks. The One also achieved first place in Austria and Switzerland .

As singles , the songs were The One , Runaway Train , The Last Song and Simple Life decoupled.

Sales figures and awards

In the year of publication, The One received a gold record in Germany for more than 250,000 units sold . In the United States, it went double-platinum in 1993 for over two million sales. In total, the album received record awards for more than 3.3 million copies sold.
