Theodor Joedicke

Theodor Philipp Hermann Walther Joedicke (born December 11, 1899 in Neuenmarkt , † January 2, 1996 in Kronberg ) was a German doctor. He was an award-winning general staff doctor and the first inspector of the medical and health system in the Bundeswehr .

biography

Joedicke attended elementary school in Neuenmarkt from 1906 to 1909 , then a humanistic high school, where he passed his Abitur on July 14, 1918 . From 1919 to 1923 he studied medicine at the universities of Erlangen and Munich . His license to practice medicine , he passed on 22 December 1924 he received his doctorate on 15 January 1925 to Dr. med. and finished his training as a surgeon in 1936.

His military training ran parallel to this. Joedicke joined the Bavarian Army on June 11, 1917 and stayed with the Bavarian Infantry Regiment Passau until September 19, 1919 . He only became a cadet (29 September 1917), then to sergeant (7 August 1918) and finally to Ensign without patent (September 20th 1918) promoted.

On August 30, 1925, Joedicke joined the Reichswehr as a troop doctor and was deployed in the Munich hospital. He held this position until September 30, 1928. From October 1, 1928, he was posted to the Erlangen University Surgical Clinic for further training , where he remained until the end of 1928. Subsequently, he was deployed as a medical officer first with Military District Doctor VII of Military District Command VII Munich (January 1, 1929 to December 31, 1931), then with Group Command 2 Kassel . He continued his training as a specialist in surgery on May 1, 1933 at the Surgical University Clinic in Hamburg and successfully completed it on April 30, 1936. After completing his specialist training, Joedicke was first head physician of the surgical department in the nursery hospital in Nuremberg (May 1, 1936 to August 25, 1939), until November 30, 1939, advisor for reserve hospitals at the military district doctor XIII (military district command XIII Nuremberg), then head of the medical company 2 / 188 of the 188th Infantry Division (December 1, 1939 to April 7, 1940), division doctor with the 7th Infantry Division's staff (April 8, 1940 to September 22, 1942), finally 1st General Staff Officer and Army Group Doctor of Army Group South . On March 1, 1943, he switched to the Army Medical Inspectorate , where he was chief of the organization department until August 1944, then chief of staff.

From May 25, 1945 to September 13, 1945, Joedicke was an American prisoner of war in Augsburg , Seckenheim and Neu-Ulm . On March 6, 1946, he resumed his work as a general practitioner in Lenggries and also worked in the local hospital.

On January 11, 1957, Joedicke joined the German Armed Forces as a senior physician and was made a professional soldier on June 24, 1957 . There he was first head of the medical services department at Military District Command VI and was appointed first inspector of the medical and health services of the Bundeswehr on August 24, 1957 with effect from September 2; at the same time he was promoted to general doctor. On December 23, 1958, he was promoted to general staff doctor .

Joedicke remained in this position until he retired on September 30, 1962.
