Arabic as a compulsory language in German schools

In the 6/2016 edition of the weekly newspaper Die Zeit , which appeared at the beginning of February 2016, Strothotte suggested in a guest article that Arabic be introduced as a regular subject in German schools . This enables access to the Arab world. Strothotte emphasized that this recognized that Germany was a country of immigration with a multilingual society. The announcement of the publication already met with a great response on the Internet, apart from the mere replication of the press release, mainly in the form of headwinds from party circles of the CDU, the Greens and the SPD. Jenovan Krishnan , member of the CDU federal executive committee and chairman of the Christian Democratic Students' Ring , called the proposal a “completely wrong signal” that would not promote integration but hinder it. Also Özcan Mutlu , education expert of Alliance 90 / The Greens in the Bundestag, classified the approach of an integration as harmful. The Social Democratic education expert in the Bundestag Ernst Dieter Rossmann called it misleading, it leads to more problems than it would solve.

Jürgen Kaube commented on Strothotte's suggestion in the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung as "submitting the mind to talking freely".
