Death on the Nile (Original title: Death on the Nile ) is an announced American crime film , which will come to US cinemas on October 23, 2020. It is the third film adaptation of the crime novel of the same name and, after Murder on the Orient Express from 2017, the second Agatha Christie film adaptation by director Kenneth Branagh .

Even before the release of Murder on the Orient Express , director and leading actor Kenneth Branagh said that if the film was successful, he would like to make another Hercule Poirot film. Not only did he enjoy immersing himself in the nature of the character, but also reading and understanding several books by Agatha Christie during the course of the production . After the reviews of Murder on the Orient Express turned out eventually just mixed, the film could however import more than 350 million US dollars worldwide with a budget of 55 million US dollars, was by 20th Century Fox in November 2017, the film Death on the Nile announced to be written by Michael Green . While Patrick Doyle will compose the film music, Ridley Scott , Mark Gordon , Simon Kinberg , Kevin J. Walsh and Judy Hofflund will act as producers. Branagh commented on the tonality of the film that Death on the Nile would be "very dark, very sexy" and unsettling.

In September 2018, the role of Linnet Ridgeway Doyle , the later fatality, was cast with Gal Gadot . Later, the engagements of Armie Hammer , Letitia Wright , Annette Bening , Russell Brand , and Ali Fazal and shortly before the start of shooting, Dawn French , Rose Leslie , Emma Mackey , Sophie Okonedo and Jennifer Saunders were known for further leading and supporting roles. Besides Branagh himself, Tom Bateman is the only actor who can be seen again in his role from Murder on the Orient Express .

Filming began on October 1, 2019 at Longcross Studios outside London . Haris Zambarloukos , who shot on 65mm film , acted as cameraman . Further recordings were made at various locations in Egypt . Filming was officially completed at the end of December 2019.

In February 2018, the German theatrical release was initially dated November 7, 2019 and the US theatrical release the following day. The US launch date was later postponed first to December 20, 2019, then to October 2, then to October 9, and finally to October 23, 2020. A first trailer including a film poster was released on August 19, 2020.
