The 3rd stage of the Tour de France 2018 took place on July 9, 2018. The stage was held as a team time trial over 35.5 kilometers with start and finish in Cholet .
Winner of the day was the BMC Racing Team of Richie Porte . His team-mate Greg Van Avermaet took over the yellow jersey . Team Sky of last year's winner Chris Froome finished second, four seconds behind . Quick-Step Floors defended the lead in the team standings (Tour de France) as third of the day, 7 seconds behind , but Fernando Gaviria lost the white jersey to Søren Kragh Andersen ( Team Sunweb with Tom Dumoulin , 5 and 11 seconds behind) because he could not keep the pace of his team. The previous overall leader Peter Sagan was also unable to maintain the pace of his team , whose Bora-hansgrohe team finished seventh, 50 seconds behind.
