The 6th stage of the Tour de France 2018 took place on July 12, 2018. The hilly stage led over 181 kilometers from Brest to Mûr-de-Bretagne .

Stage winner was Daniel Martin ( UAE Team Emirates ) after an attack on the finish slope. He saved a second advantage over Pierre Latour ( Ag2r La Mondiale ), who attacked shortly after him. Third was Alejandro Valverde ( Movistar Team ), who led a group of 14 chasing groups to the finish. In this group, Peter Sagan finished eighth and thus defended his green jersey, just as Greg Van Avermaet defended the yellow jersey in twelfth place . Behind this group, last year's winner Chris Froome lost eight seconds in 18th and last year's runner-up Rigoberto Urán in 19th eleven seconds. After defects shortly before the finish, last year's third Romain Bardet lost 31 seconds and the winner of the Giro d'Italia 2017 Tom Dumoulin 53 seconds. Dumoulin was also given a 20-second time penalty for using the slipstream of his team car to catch up .

Right from the start, a leading group formed with Laurent Pichon , Damien Gaudin , Fabien Grellier , Anthony Turgis and Dion Smith . From this group, which had a maximum advantage of about 7 minutes, Smith won the first two mountain classifications. The lead sank after the Quick-Step Floors team attacked in crosswinds in the main field and a group around Primož Roglič lost connection in the meantime. During the first crossing of the Mur-de-Bretagne 17 kilometers from the finish, the last two outliers Smith and Grellier were made. Shortly afterwards, Toms Skujiņš won the mountain classification and the runner-up in the mountain classification, Jack Bauer attacked, but was overtaken a few kilometers from the finish.
