The 14th stage of the Tour de France 2018 led over 188 kilometers from Saint-Paul-Trois-Châteaux to Mende on July 21, 2018 .

After a mountain classification of the fourth category and an intermediate sprint , the Col de la Croix de Berthel followed after 129 kilometers , a mountain classification of the 2nd category with 9.1 kilometers ascent and an average gradient of 5.3%. The following kilometers were wavy and sloping towards Mende, with a third category gradient to be mastered. The last mountain classification of the day began in Mende, the 3 kilometer long Cote de la Croix Neuve with a gradient of over 10 percent. After the end of the ascent, there were 1,500 meters, initially falling and then flat, to the finish line at the Mende airfield.

The stage winner was Omar Fraile ( Astana Pro Team ) with a six-second lead over the leaders in the mountain classification Julian Alaphilippe ( Quick-Step Floors ) and Jasper Stuyven ( Trek-Segafredo ), who was awarded the red number . Peter Sagan finished fourth, 12 seconds behind, who won the intermediate sprint of the day and defended his green jersey .

After the field of drivers initially split up into four parts in strong winds, a 32-strong top group pulled away, whose members took the first 28 places in the stage classification. From this group, Gorka Izagirre attacked in the second mountain classification . After the summit, Stuyven and Tom Slagter caught up with him. Since this trio did not harmonize, Stuyven attacked before the third mountain classification, was first put on the final ascent by Fraile and then by Alaphilippe, who attacked from the field of pursuers on the climb.

Primož Roglič , who crossed the finish line eight seconds ahead of the top three in the overall standings, Chris Froome , Tom Dumoulin and the yellow jersey wearer Geraint Thomas, came first in the peloton in 29th place, 18:01 minutes behind . Most of the top drivers in the overall standings lost just a few seconds to the Froome group; Daniel Martin, however, after a defect 1:43 minutes.

Patrick Bevin gave up the race with stomach ache.
