Tour de France 2018 / mountain ratings

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A total of 53 mountain classifications had to be tackled in the 2018 Tour de France .

Of the 53 mountain ratings, 18 were in category 4, 9 in the third category, 7 in category 2, 10 in the first category and 9 climbs were assigned to the Hors Catégorie (HC). The division into categories is interesting for the evaluation of the dotted jersey . For example, the winner of a mountain classification in the fourth category was awarded one point, and the winner of mountains in categories 3 and 2 was awarded two and five points, respectively. The first received ten points on a mountain in the first category, while hors-catégorie climbs earned the winner 20 points in the mountain classification. At the Col du Portillon ( 16th stage ), at the Col de Portet ( 17th stage ) and at the Col d'Aubisque( 19th stage ) the points were doubled.

The 53 categorized climbs of the 105th Tour de France were on average around 6.77 kilometers long. The longest ascent was the one to the Col de la Croix de Fer (29.0 kilometers), while the 0.7-kilometer classification on the Côte de Vix was the shortest of its kind. The steepest average ascent was the 6.0 kilometer journey to the Montée du Plateau des Glières , the flattest was the ascent to the Côte de Roc'h Trevezel .

On the Col de Portet was Souvenir Henri Desgrange awarded on the Col du Tourmalet , the Souvenir Jacques Goddet .
