Johann Sebastian Bach
- Johann Sebastian Bach works in Weimar as court organist and chamber musician at the court of Duke Wilhelm Ernst .
- April 21 : The church cantata Heaven laughs! Die Erde jubilieret (BWV 31) by Johann Sebastian Bach will be premiered on Easter Sunday.
- May 11th : Johann Gottfried Bernhard Bach is born as the sixth child of Maria Barbara Bach and Johann Sebastian Bach.
- June 16 : World premiere of the church cantata O Heilges Geist- und Wasserbad (BWV 165) by Johann Sebastian Bach at Trinity under the direction of the composer.
- July 14th : The church cantata Mercy Heart of Eternal Love (BWV 185) by Johann Sebastian Bach is performed for the first time under his direction.
- October 6th : Bach's church cantata Come, you sweet hour of death (BWV 161) will probably be premiered on the 16th Sunday after Trinity.
- November 3rd : Probable world premiere of the church cantata Oh! I see now that I am going to Johann Sebastian Bach's wedding (BWV 162) for the 20th Sunday after Trinity .
- November 24th : Bach conducts the world premiere of his church cantata Nur everyone is his (BWV 163) on the 23rd Sunday after Trinity.
- December 22nd : On the 4th Advent, Bach's church cantata will prepare the way, prepare the way! (BWV 132) premiered.
- During his tenure in Weimar from 1712 to 1717, Johann Sebastian Bach composed a collection of chorale- related organ pieces ( choral preludes ), known as the Orgelbüchlein (BWV 599–644). His English suites were also created around 1715.
georg Friedrich Handel
- George Frideric Handel has been in London since October 1712 and has lived with the Earl of Burlington since 1713 .
- May 25 : Handel's opera Amadigi di Gaula is premiered at the King's Theater on Haymarket in London . The author of the libretto cannot be verified, but it is assumed that it is a work by Giacomo Rossi, but possibly also by Nicola Francesco Haym . The material is based on the knightly legend by Amadis de Gaula , which in turn belongs to the Arthurian legends . Handel wrote the title role for the castrato Nicolo Grimaldi , who is now performing in London for the first time in three years.
Alessandro Scarlatti
- Alessandro Scarlatti is Kapellmeister of the Cappella Reale in Naples and publishes his 12 Sinfonie di concerto grosso for wind instruments and strings, which essentially adhere to the concerto grosso concept coined by Arcangelo Corelli .
- February 16 : World premiere of the opera Il Tigrane ossia L'egual impegno d'amore e di fede by Alessandro Scarlatti based on the libretto by Domenico Lalli at the Teatro San Bartolomeo in Naples.
- As can be seen from the dedication of his Missa Clementina II , composed in 1716, Pope Clement XI. Scarlatti knighted in 1715.
Domenico Scarlatti
- Domenico Scarlatti has worked in Rome since 1709 with the exiled Polish Queen Maria Casimira Sobieska , who lives in Palazzo Zuccari , for whose private stage he has composed six operas, as well as at least one cantata and one oratorio over the years . Since 1713 he has also been maestro di capella at the Capella Giulia of the Vatican .
- Carnival: The opera Ambleto by Domenico Scarlatti based on the libretto by Apostolo Zeno and Pietro Pariati is premiered. Only one aria from the opera has survived.
- Another opera by Scarlatti (libretto Girolamo Gigli) will be premiered in Lucca with Dirindina .
Georg Philipp Telemann
- Georg Philipp Telemann is the city's music director and bandmaster of the Barfüßer and Katharinenkirche in Frankfurt am Main . Telemann also takes over the organization of the weekly concerts and various administrative tasks of making exchange Company to Frauenstein in the house Braunfels on the Liebfrauenberg where he also lives.
- During his time in Frankfurt Telemann composed, in addition to the cantatas, oratorios , orchestral and chamber music , much of which is published, as well as music for political ceremonies and wedding serenades. However, he does not find the opportunity to publish operas, although he continues to write for the Leipzig Opera.
Antonio Vivaldi
- Antonio Vivaldi is the musical director (maestro de 'concerti) of the Orchester des Ospedale della Pietà (one of four homes in Venice for orphan girls). The orchestra soon acquired a reputation that was legendary for the time and attracted numerous travelers to Italy. Vivaldi also composes sacred works for the Ospedale della Pietà, including the Credo and two versions of the Gloria .
- Vivaldi's opera Nerone fatto cesare based on the libretto by Matteo Noris is premiered.
Other biographical events
- March 17th : Tomaso Albinoni marries the singer Margherita Raimondi (1683 / 84–1721) in Milan , who made her debut in Venice at the age of 15, and settles with her in the Venetian parish of San Trovaso . The marriage will have three sons and four daughters. Margherita Albinoni also appears on the opera stage after her marriage, but with one exception ( I rivali generosi , Brescia 1715), apparently never in her husband's works.
- July: Nicola Antonio Porpora begins his work as a singing teacher at the Conservatorio Sant'Onofrio in Naples, from which such famous students as the castrati Antonio Uberti (who calls himself Porporino in honor of his teacher ), Farinelli (Carlo Broschi) and Caffarelli (Gaetano Majorano) will emerge.
- After the death of Marc'Antonio Ziani , Johann Joseph Fux became court conductor of the Viennese court orchestra , one of the most important offices in European musical life at the time. In addition, he still worked (from 1713 and until 1718) as court conductor of the Empress Widow Wilhelmine Amalie and taught composition
- Johann Mattheson becomes vicar at Hamburg Cathedral .
- Jean-Philippe Rameau changes from Lyon to a post of organist in Clermont , which is planned for 29 years.

- October 1st : The world premiere of the opera Orfeo ed Euridice by Johann Joseph Fux takes place in Vienna .
- The pastoral in three acts La costanza vince l'inganno by Christoph Graupner has its world premiere in Darmstadt. The overture and the ballet music are by Ernst Ludwig, Landgrave of Hessen Darmstadt .

- Three operas by Giuseppe Maria Orlandini are premiered:
- Nerone fatto Cesare (Dramma per musica; arias in a pasticcio with music by many composers; libretto by Matteo Noris ; premiere around February 19 in Venice at the Teatro Sant'Angelo )
- Bacocco e Serpilla (Intermezzi comici-musicali; libretto by Antonio Salvi ; world premiere in May in Verona). The opera is probably the most frequently performed musical stage work of all in the 18th century.
