Johann Sebastian Bach
- Johann Sebastian Bach has been Kapellmeister and director of their Cammer music at the court of Prince Leopold von Anhalt-Köthen in Köthen since August 7, 1717 . Bach values the young musical prince, who often takes part as a violinist in the orchestra and is obviously close to him personally.
- November 15 : Leopold Augustus Bach is born as the seventh child of Maria Barbara Bach and Johann Sebastian Bach. The boy's godparents are Prince Leopold and his siblings August Ludwig and Eleonore Wilhelmine .
- December 10th : On the occasion of Prince Leopold's 24th birthday , Bach performs his cantata Lobet den Herrn, all his hosts (BWV Appendix 5). The libretto is by Christian Friedrich Hunold .
georg Friedrich Handel
- Georg Friedrich Handel has lived in London since October 1712 . He has been the resident composer of the Earl of Carnarvon , later Duke of Chandos, since summer 1717 , a position previously held by Johann Christoph Pepusch . A progressive group of writers, including John Gay and Alexander Pope , gathers here . Handel's works, which he composed for the ducal residence of Cannons in Edgware, will include the twelve Chandos Anthems as well as the first version by Esther and the completely new English version of Acis and Galatea (text: John Gay). In Cannons, Handel probably also completed the Suites de Pièces pour le Clavecin (1st collection), self-published in 1720 , which contain, among other things, the well-known variations that will later be given the name The Harmonious Blacksmith ("The harmonious blacksmith"). He also completed his Chandos Te Deum during his stay , which was premiered at St. Lawrence's Church in Cannons.

Alessandro Scarlatti
- Alessandro Scarlatti , who worked as Kapellmeister of the Cappella Reale in Naples , stayed mainly in Rome from 1717 (until 1722) . Here he will conclude the series of his operas with several works for the Teatro Capranica.
- February: The melodrama Telemaco by Alessandro Scarlatti based on the libretto by Carlo Sigismondo Capece has its world premiere at the Teatro Capranica in Rome.
- November 4th : World premiere of the opera Ifigenia in Aulide by Alessandro Scarlatti in Vienna .

Domenico Scarlatti
- Domenico Scarlatti has worked in Rome since 1709 with the exiled Polish Queen Maria Casimira Sobieska , who lives in Palazzo Zuccari , for whose private stage he has composed six operas, as well as at least one cantata and one oratorio over the years .
- Since 1713 Scarlatti has also been maestro di capella at the Capella Giulia of the Vatican .
- Carnival: The dramma per musica Berenice Regina di Egitto overo Le Gare d'Amore, e di Politica by Domenico Scarlatti and Nicola Antonio Porpora based on the libretto by Antonio Salvi will be premiered in Rome at the Teatro Capranica.
Georg Philipp Telemann
- Georg Philipp Telemann is the city's music director and bandmaster of the Barfüßer and Katharinenkirche in Frankfurt am Main . Telemann also takes over the organization of the weekly concerts and various administrative tasks of making exchange Company to Frauenstein in the house Braunfels on the Liebfrauenberg where he also lives.
- During his time in Frankfurt Telemann composed, in addition to the cantatas, oratorios , orchestral and chamber music , much of which is published, as well as music for political ceremonies and wedding serenades. However, he does not find the opportunity to publish operas, although he continues to write for the Leipzig Opera.
- Georg Philipp Telemann published his first autobiography at the suggestion of the composer and music scholar Johann Mattheson . Two more autobiographies will follow in 1729 and 1740.
Antonio Vivaldi
- Antonio Vivaldi is the musical director (maestro de 'concerti) of the Ospedale della Pietà orchestra (one of four homes in Venice for orphan girls). The orchestra soon acquired a reputation that was legendary for the time and attracted numerous travelers to Italy.
- After disputes in Venice, Vivaldi moved to Mantua , where he mainly worked as artistic director and opera composer in the service of Prince Philipp von Hessen-Darmstadt .

- Geminiano Giacomelli marries Francesca Marchi in Piacenza . The marriage will have nine children.
- Johann Adolph Hasse , who began to study singing in Hamburg in 1714 , is recommended by the poet Johann Ulrich von König as a tenor at the Oper am Gänsemarkt .
- Francesco Manfredini dedicates his Concerti op. 3 to Prince Antonio I Grimaldi of Monaco , whom he met in Venice in 1711 and in whose service he entered.
- Johann Mattheson becomes music director at the Hamburg Cathedral , a position he will hold until 1728.
- Johann Joachim Quantz settles in Dresden. He took flute lessons from the French flautist Pierre-Gabriel Buffardin and began to compose.
- After the death of his father Francisco Vaz, 14-year-old Carlos Seixas takes over his position as organist in the Sé Velha Cathedral in Coimbra .
- Silvius Leopold Weiss is employed as a royal chamber lutenist at the court of the Elector of Saxony , August the Strong, in Dresden. He is one of the best-paid musicians at court in Dresden and will stay there until the end of his life.
- The old castrato Gaetano Berenstadt wants to return to Italy after his debut in London (with Handel) in 1717. On the way he made a stopover in Dresden and worked for one year in the service of the Saxon Elector Friedrich August I, better known as August the Strong . For this one-year commitment, Berenstadt receives a fee of 3000 thalers.
- After the death of the organist A. Meißner, Johann Gotthilf Ziegler was appointed sole director musices and organist at the Ulrichskirche in Halle . He will keep this office until his death, although he has received several appointments from abroad, for example from Reval , which, however, are made less attractive by increased salaries.
