Events

Johann Sebastian Bach

georg Friedrich Handel

  • Georg Friedrich Handel has lived in London since October 1712 . He has been the resident composer of the Earl of Carnarvon , later Duke of Chandos, since summer 1717 , a position previously held by Johann Christoph Pepusch . A progressive group of writers, including John Gay and Alexander Pope , gathers here . Handel's works, which he composed for the ducal residence of Cannons in Edgware, will include the twelve Chandos Anthems as well as the first version by Esther and the completely new English version of Acis and Galatea (text: John Gay). In Cannons, Handel probably also completed the Suites de Pièces pour le Clavecin (1st collection), self-published in 1720 , which contain, among other things, the well-known variations that will later be given the name The Harmonious Blacksmith ("The harmonious blacksmith"). He also completed his Chandos Te Deum during his stay , which was premiered at St. Lawrence's Church in Cannons.
  • Early summer: Georg Friedrich Händel composes the Masque Acis and Galatea and the first version of the oratorio Esther .
