Johann Sebastian Bach
- Johann Sebastian Bach works in Weimar as court organist and chamber musician at the court of Duke Wilhelm Ernst .
- February 23 : The twins Maria Sophia and Johann Christoph of Maria Barbara Bach and Johann Sebastian Bach are born, but die soon afterwards.
- June 28th : The cantata What I like is just the lively hunt (BWV 208) by Bach will be premiered on the occasion of the 31st birthday of Christian von Sachsen-Weißenfels in Weißenfels in the Jägerhof on Nikolaistraße. The libretto is by Salomon Franck . It is Bach's earliest known secular cantata.
- October: The cantata Everything with God and nothing without him (BWV 1127) is premiered.
- Towards the end of the year, Johann Sebastian Bach was offered the position of organist at the market church of St. Marien and Liebfrau en in Halle after the performance of a rehearsal cantata . He received his appointment from the church council on December 14th, but hesitated to sign the contract and only sent a final rejection on March 19, 1714 on the grounds that the salary did not meet his expectations.
- During his tenure in Weimar from 1712 to 1717, Johann Sebastian Bach composed a collection of chorale- related organ pieces ( choral preludes ), known as the Orgelbüchlein ( BWV 599–644).
georg Friedrich Handel
- George Frideric Handel stayed in London again since October 1712 and initially lived for a year with a wealthy music lover named Andrews in Barn Elms, Surrey (today's Barnes ).
- January 10th : Georg Friedrich Handel's third London opera Teseo has its world premiere at the Queen's Theater, Haymarket . The opera is the first collaboration with the musician and poet Nicola Francesco Haym . For the libretto, Haym uses the French model Thesée , which Philippe Quinault wrote in 1675 for Jean-Baptiste Lully . The adoption of the structure of this tragédie lyrique means that Teseo Handel is the only opera with five acts.
- Georg Friedrich Handel writes the Ode for the Birthday of Queen Anne . Since Anne on her birthday, the 6./16. February is ill, the work will probably not be premiered until a year later.
- Probably June 2nd : The Dramma per musica in three acts Lucio Cornelio Silla by Georg Friedrich Händel based on the libretto by G. Rossi will be premiered at Burlington House or Queen's Theater in London.
- July 7th : After a public rehearsal on March 5th, Handel's Te Deum and Jubilate in Utrecht will be officially premiered on the occasion of the Peace of Utrecht at a service in St Paul's Cathedral . The work earns the composer an annual pension from Queen Anne and is subsequently performed each year at the Festival of the Sons of the Clergy .
Alessandro Scarlatti
- Alessandro Scarlatti , who works as Kapellmeister of the Cappella Reale in Naples , deals with the instrumental music that he had neglected until then . In 1715 he will be able to publish the 12 symphony di concerto grosso .
Domenico Scarlatti
- Domenico Scarlatti has worked in Rome since 1709 with the exiled Polish Queen Maria Casimira Sobieska , who lives in Palazzo Zuccari , for whose private stage he has composed six operas, as well as at least one cantata and one oratorio over the years .
- From 1711 to 1714 Scarlatti worked with the librettist Carlo Sigismondo Capece and the set designer Filippo Juvarra .
- January 11th: The Dramma per musica Ifigenia in Aulide by Domenico Scarlatti based on the libretto by Carlo Sigismondo Capece is premiered at the Palazzo Zuccari in Rome. Only one aria from the opera has survived.
- That year, the opera Ifigenia in Tauri by Scarlatti based on the libretto by Carlo Sigismondo Capece will also be premiered in Rome . Only three arias from this opera have survived.
- December 22nd : Scarlatti becomes maestro di capella at the Capella Giulia of the Vatican .
Georg Philipp Telemann
- Georg Philipp Telemann is the city's music director and bandmaster of the Barfüßer and Katharinenkirche in Frankfurt am Main . Telemann also takes over the organization of the weekly concerts and various administrative tasks of making exchange Company to Frauenstein in the house Braunfels on the Liebfrauenberg where he also lives.
Antonio Vivaldi
- Antonio Vivaldi is the musical director (maestro de 'concerti) of the Orchester des Ospedale della Pietà (one of four homes in Venice for orphan girls). The orchestra gains a legendary reputation and attracts numerous travelers to Italy.
- May 17th : The first opera by Antonio Vivaldi Ottone in villa based on the libretto by Domenico Lalli premieres at the Teatro delle Grazie in Vicenza . Over fifty more operas will follow by 1739.

- At the French court of Louis XIV , the Peace of Utrecht is celebrated with the Ballet de la Paix (p. 150; Ballet of Peace) by Michel-Richard Delalande .
- François Couperin published the first volume of his original Pièces de clavecin (pieces for harpsichord ) and from then on was recognized as the leading master of refined French harpsichord art.
- In Vienna, Johann Joseph Fux worked from 1713 to 1718 as court conductor for the widow Empress Wilhelmine Amalie .
- Francesco Bartolomeo Conti is appointed court composer to the Viennese imperial court alongside Marc'Antonio Ziani and Fux.
- Daniel Purcell becomes organist at St. Andrew's Church, Holborn, London.
- May 31 : Johann Mattheson starts publishing the magazine Der Vernünstftler , the first German-language “Moral Weekly”. These are excerpts from the two English magazines Tatler and Spectator, translated into German . Although the magazine was only published for a year until May 26, 1714 , it had a lasting influence on "the entire development of the German literary language."
- Jean-Philippe Rameau , who has been the organist of the Notre-Dame de Dijon church since 1709 , moves to Lyon .
- Gottfried Silbermann accepts Zacharias Hildebrandt as an apprentice, although he cannot pay any apprenticeship fees. For this, Hildebrandt undertakes by contract, after the training "in Sachßen and Alsace in no way, to the disadvantage of him [= Silbermann], to work anything". Since Hildebrandt did not adhere to the agreement, a long legal dispute broke out between the competitors at the beginning of the 1720s.
- In Florence, Gaetano Berenstadt made the acquaintance of the Palatinate Elector Johann Wilhelm von der Pfalz , who signed him to the court of Düsseldorf as a court singer . In Düsseldorf he took part in the Amalasunta of the Düsseldorf court music director Johann Hugo von Wilderer (1670-1724).
