Johann Sebastian Bach
- Johann Sebastian Bach works in Weimar as court organist and chamber musician at the court of Duke Wilhelm Ernst .
- During his tenure in Weimar from 1712 to 1717 Johann Sebastian Bach composed a collection of chorale- related organ pieces ( chorale preludes ), known as the Orgelbüchlein ( BWV 599–644).
- Bach inspects the organ of the organ builder Heinrich Nicolaus Trebs in the Weimar Castle Church .
Arcangelo Corelli
- Arcangelo Corelli , who after 1709 increasingly withdrew from the public for health reasons and dedicated himself to the composition, revision and publication of his 12 Concerti grossi op. 6, gave the Amsterdam printer Estienne Roger the exclusive printing privilege for this work.
- December: The dedication of the work, addressed to Elector Johann Wilhelm, is written by Pietro Ottoboni in Corelli's name, which makes clear the poor health of the composer at the time.
- End of December: Corelli moves from the Cancelleria to his brother Giacinto's palazzo, where his rich possessions, including valuable paintings and musical instruments, are kept.
georg Friedrich Handel
- Beginning of June: After the end of the opera season in London , Georg Friedrich Handel returns to Hanover , not without having accepted an invitation to the Duesseldorf court of Count Palatine Johann Wilhelm . The latter provided him with a letter of apology for Hanover, in which he regretted that he had stopped Handel.
- Once in Hannover, writes Handel for the Electoral Princess and later Queen of England C aroline of Brandenburg-Ansbach , among others, a number of vocal duets and "a lot of things for voices and instruments" (Mainwaring).
- After only a few months, Handel asked Elector Georg Ludwig of Hanover to be allowed to return to London , which he was allowed "with the condition that he would adjust himself again after a decent time" (Mainwaring).
- October: Handel goes back to London, where - apart from traveling - he spends the rest of his life. He initially lived for a year with a wealthy music lover named Andrews in Barn Elms, Surrey (now Barnes ).
Alessandro Scarlatti
- Alessandro Scarlatti , who works as Kapellmeister of the Cappella Reale in Naples, deals with the instrumental music that he had neglected until then . In 1715 he will be able to publish the 12 symphony di concerto grosso .
Domenico Scarlatti
- Domenico Scarlatti has worked in Rome since 1709 with the exiled Polish Queen Maria Casimira Sobieska , who lives in Palazzo Zuccari , for whose private stage he has composed six operas, as well as at least one cantata and one oratorio over the years .
- From 1711 to 1714 Scarlatti worked with the librettist Carlo Sigismondo Capece and the set designer Filippo Juvarra . The collaborative works include Tolomeo , Tetide in Sciro and Amor d'un Ombra .
Georg Philipp Telemann
- After brief employment at the courts of Sorau and Eisenach in previous years, Georg Philipp Telemann was appointed municipal music director and conductor of the Barfüßer Church and a little later also of the Katharinenkirche in Frankfurt am Main . In addition, he begins self-publishing works.
Antonio Vivaldi
- Antonio Vivaldi , who has been employed as maestro di violino since 1703 and additionally as maestro di viola all'inglese in the orchestra of the Ospedale della Pietà (one of four homes in Venice for orphan girls) since 1704 , is appointed musical director of the orchestra (maestro de 'concerti) . The orchestra soon acquired a reputation that was legendary for the time and attracted numerous travelers to Italy.
- Vivaldi publishes his 12 violin concertos La stravaganza op.4 .

- After the death of Emperor Joseph I (1711), Johann Joseph Fux was appointed vice court conductor of the Vienna court orchestra .
- January 3rd : Reinhard Keizer marries the famous singer Barbara Oldenburg, daughter of the council musician Hieronymus Oldenburg.
- Barthold Heinrich Brockes published the libretto for the Passion oratorio JESUS Martyred and Dying for the Sin of the World , which Reinhard Keizer set to music for the first time that same year . The world premiere takes place during the Passion in the large house of the librettist in Hamburg.
- As in the previous year, Johann Friedrich Fasch composes operas for the Naumburg Opera House and plays in the orchestra of the Opernhaus am Brühl .
- Johann Ernst Galliard works as an organist at Somerset House in London and also temporarily as a composer for the London theater. His opera Calypso and Telemachus , composed in 1712, remains largely unsuccessful.
- Johann Georg Pisendel has been the first violinist in the Dresden court orchestra since January .
- Arp Schnitger , whose first wife died in 1707, marries (1712 or 1713) the organist widow Anna Elisabeth Koch, b. Dieckmann from Abbehausen .
- The young Giuseppe Tartini heard the violin playing by Francesco Maria Veracini for the first time and was so impressed that he withdrew from active musical life for a certain time in order to devote himself to improving his own violin playing, in particular to the correct bowing before he appears again in public.

- January 12th : The Tragédie en musique in a prologue and five acts Idoménée by André Campra based on the libretto by Antoine Danchet is premiered at the Théâtre du Palais-Royal in Paris .
- January 28th : The musical drama in three acts with an epilogue The Oesterreichische Großmuth or Carolus V. by Reinhard Keizer on the libretto by Johann Ulrich König becomes the coronation festival of Emperor Charles VI. Premiered.
- April: Reinhard Keiser's shepherd's play in three acts The Discovery of Disguise or Diana's Secret Love on the libretto by Johann Ulrich König is performed for the first time at the Opera on Gänsemarkt . A new version of the baroque opera will be performed on July 19, 1724 under the name The Avenging Cupid .
- June: The Singspiel in five acts with prologue and epilogue The Restored Peace or The Crowned Bravery of Heraclius by Reinhard Keizer based on the libretto by Johann Ulrich König based on L'Heraclio by Nicolò Beregan is premiered on the occasion of the Hungarian coronation festival.
- November 22nd : The world premiere of the opera Il pastor fido ( The Faithful Shepherd ) by Georg Friedrich Händel based on the libretto by G. Rossi based on GB Guarini takes place at the Queen's Theater in London . The play fails in its first version and is canceled after seven performances.
- December 27th : The tragédie lyrique Callirhoé by André Cardinal Destouches is premiered in Paris; the libretto was written by Pierre-Charles Roy .
- The opera Le gare generose by Tomaso Albinoni based on the libretto by Antonio Zaniboni will be premiered in Venice . The music is lost except for five arias.

- The dramma per musica in three acts L'infedeltà punita by Antonio Lotti based on the libretto by Francesco Silvani has its world premiere in Venice.
