Traer is a small town (with the status " City ") in Tama County in the US -amerikanischen State Iowa . At the 2010 census , Traer had 1,703 residents, the number of which had decreased to 1,677 by 2013.

Traer is located in east central Iowa on the right bank of Wolf Creek , which is part of the Mississippi River system via the Cedar River and the Iowa River . This forms the border with Illinois around 180 km east . The Iowa- Minnesota border runs about 150 km north; Missouri's northern border is around 200 km south.
