Triple Crown (Wrestling)
The Triple Crown is an award in wrestling . This is awarded to wrestlers who have won three specific championships of a promotion in the course of their careers.
World Wrestling Entertainment
In WWE , the term Triple Crown has traditionally been used to describe a wrestler who has won the WWE Championship , the Intercontinental Championship, and the World Tag Team Championship . For nearly eighteen years, these were the only three championships a wrestler would have to hold to earn the Triple Crown award . Until the 1990s, this award was extremely rare. Pedro Morales remained the sole Triple Crown Champion for over a decade .
After the first brand split between 2002 and 2011, the World Heavyweight Championship and the WWE Tag Team Championship became alternative titles that can form part of the Triple Crown. During the amalgamation of the two World Championships and the Two-Tag Team Championships, the only three Triple Crown Championships were the WWE Championship , Intercontinental Championship and the WWE Tag Team Championship . In July 2016, WWE reintroduced the Brand Split and with it two new titles: the Universal Championship and the SmackDown Tag Team Championship . WWE stated in January 2017 that the above championships are acceptable replacements to form the Grand Slam , but it has not been confirmed whether these are part of the Triple Crown .
CM Punk holds the record for completing the Triple Crown in the shortest time between the first and third titles. It lasted 203 days between June 2008 and January 2009. It broke diesel's previous record of 227 days in 1994.
