Troy Devon Bell (born November 10, 1980 in Minneapolis , Minnesota ) is an American basketball player . Bell was selected after a successful college career in the NBA Draft in the first round, but could not then prevail in the highest endowed professional league NBA . He then continued his career in Europe and, with a few exceptions, played mainly in the top two divisions in Italy . Since February 2013 he has been playing in the Lega Basket Serie A for Trenkwalder RE from Reggio nell'Emilia, who returned to the first division .

Career

After graduating from the Academy of Holy Angels in Minnesota, Bell moved to the East Coast to study at Boston College in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts . For their college team Eagles, he then played in the Big East Conference of the NCAA . In his second year as a sophomore , he won the 2001 conference championship and Bell was named the championship tournament's Most Valuable Player . In the second round game of the national finals of the NCAA , despite a new personal career best from Bell with 32 points with three points difference against the lower-ranked Trojans of the University of Southern California from. In the following finals in 2002, the first round was the last stop against the favored Longhorns of the University of Texas at Austin . In Bell's senior year 2003 there was no " postseason " at all . Bell was nevertheless able to recommend itself as a first-class scorer with 2,632 points and 21.6 points per game and the two-time award as "Big East Player of the Year" for a professional contract and surpassed the 2,500 point mark in his college career, which is only a comparatively low one Number of basketball players succeeded in their college careers. So he was selected in the Entry Draft 2003 in the first round in 16th place by the Boston Celtics and passed directly to the Memphis Grizzlies in a player swap.

In the 2003/04 NBA , however, Bell was only used in six games for a total of 34 minutes and was released after knee surgery in the summer at the beginning of the following season. In December 2004 he tried his hand at the European top club Real Madrid as a replacement for the injured Louis Bullock and was also used in two games of the ULEB Euroleague 2004/05 . However, the fixed-term contract expired and was not extended. He then auditioned for the New Orleans Hornets the following summer , where he was soon dismissed, and also did not survive the medical check in December 2005 at the German first division club Deutsche Bank Skyliners from Frankfurt am Main , after he had already played a game for the Frankfurters ULEB Cup 2005/06 as a replacement for the injured Pascal Roller . After being without a contract for a long time, he tried to strengthen his fitness through boxing and to cope with personal frustration. He played two amateur fights in the summer of 2006. After he was finally selected in 2006 in the draft of the NBA Development League (D-League) by the reigning champions Albuquerque Thunderbirds, he again completed assignments in professional basketball and after a short time moved to league competitor Austin Toros in December 2006. Bell could no longer recommend himself for a new chance in the NBA via the D-League.

For the 2007/08 season he went back to Europe and signed a contract with Angelico in the Lega Basket Serie A in Biella, Italy . In mid-March 2008 he moved to the second division team FastWeb Junior from Casale Monferrato in LegADue , who were eliminated in the first round of the play-offs for promotion to Serie A against Vanoli from Soresina . Vanoli himself was eliminated in the next play-off round and signed Bell for the following season. Here Bell reached almost 20 points on average and in the promotion play-offs they beat Bell's ex-club from Casale Monferrato again in the semi-final series, in order to finally win the final series and achieve promotion to Serie A. For Serie A, the club merged with another club from the next larger neighboring city of Cremona , where they also had their home ground. In the 2009/10 season it was enough for the climber at the end of the season to keep up, level with Bell's ex-club from Biella. In the 2010/11 season Bell first played in the French LNB Pro A for the basketball club from Orléans, which had changed its name to Orléans Loiret Basket at this season. However, the contract did not last until the end of the season, but was dissolved in mid-February 2011. He then played for the former Italian first division club Trenkwalder RE from Reggio nell'Emilia , with whom the LegADue was still relegated.

At the beginning of the 2011/12 season, Bell initially remained without a contract before the Italian second division newcomer from Sant'Antimo took Bell under contract in mid-January 2012 . Although it was enough to keep up the league, the club ended its professional sports operations at the end of the season. Then the league competitor from the Sicilian Barcellona Pozzo di Gotto , who had also come to LegADue in 2011, signed him for the new season 2012/13. In mid-February 2013, his former club Trenkwalder RE from Emilia-Romagna , who had returned to Serie A in 2012 , brought him high into the top division of Italy.
