View of Turany nad Ondavou

The municipality of Turany on the Ondava is located about twelve kilometers south of the district town of Stropkov at the northern end of the Veľká Domaša reservoir. The Ondau Uplands ( Ondavská vrchovina ), which gradually rises in a westerly direction , reach heights of 300 to 350 meters above sea level.

Turany nad Ondavou is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Miňovce in the north, Mrázovce in the northeast, Vyšný Hrabovec in the southeast and Lomné in the west.

Turany is on the 1st order road 15 , which leads from Svidník to Vranov nad Topľou and functions as part of the transit route from southeast Poland to Hungary . About 1000 meters north of the village, the 2nd order road 556 branches off to Giraltovce , which forms an important connection from Prešov , the capital of the regional association, to the holiday area at the Veľká Domaša reservoir.

history

In 1567 the place was mentioned for the first time in a document. When the Veľká Domaša dam was built (1962 to 1967), many houses in the municipality had to give way to the dammed lake. The village was rebuilt a few hundred meters to the east on higher ground. The municipality Petejovce , which was incorporated in 1964 and located south of the village, has completely disappeared . The village of Vyšný Hrabovec , which was also incorporated in 1964 , has been independent again since 1990.
