The 1981 U-21 African Football Championship was the second edition of the tournament for junior football national teams (U-21) in Africa organized by the African Football Association (CAF) . The tournament began on June 8, 1980 and ended on April 24, 1981. The winner was Egypt . The tournament winner qualified together with the defeated finalist Cameroon for the Junior World Championship 1981 in Australia.

The tournament was played in a knockout system with two legs. In the event of a tie, the away goal rule decided on progress. If there was also a tie, a penalty shoot- out was carried out without extra time .

Result
Egypt and Cameroon qualified for the 1981 World Junior Championship in Australia. There, Egypt prevailed against Mexico and Spain in the preliminary round and finished second behind the Federal Republic of Germany , and was eliminated in the quarter-finals against England . Cameroon finished last in its preliminary group behind England, Australia and Argentina .
