Arp 17 = UGC 3972 is an interacting bar-spiral galaxy of the Hubble type SB in the constellation Camelopardalis in the northern sky . It is about 234 million light years from the Milky Way .
Halton Arp organized his catalog of unusual galaxies into groups according to purely morphological criteria. This galaxy belongs to the class spiral galaxies with separated sections (Arp catalog) .
