Unterrieden is a village in the Werra-Meißner district in northern Hesse and a district of Witzenhausen . The place is a center of the cherry growing area Witzenhausen.

geography

Unterrieden located 4.8 km south-southwest of the border triangle Hesse-Thuringia-Saxony and about 1.5 km (depending crow flies ) east of Witzenhäuser main town on the Werra . North rises the sand forest ( 477.2  m above sea level. NN ), southeast the landscape passes to the depth at the top ( 508.9  m above sea level. NN ) above and beyond the Werra extend the south Soodener mountains ( 482.4  m above sea level. NN ) with the Hoher Meißner ( 753.6  m above sea level ) and southwest to west of the Kaufunger Wald ( 643.4  m above sea level ).

The village is connected to the main road network via the federal highways 27 ( Göttingen - Eschwege ) and 80 ( Hann. Münden - Heilbad Heiligenstadt ). Since December 2006, the A 38 (Göttingen– Halle (Saale) ) has been accessible via the B 27 , from which there is a connection to the federal motorway 7 at the nearby Drammetal motorway triangle .

1946 Complete settlement of the company Grimm & Triepel in Unterrieden, which had a branch in Unterrieden as early as 1933. Until it closed in 2016, the company was the only one in Germany to produce chewing tobacco .
