Location of Unterzeitlbach in Bavaria

Unterzeitlbach is a church village and part of the Altomünster market in the Upper Bavarian district of Dachau . It belongs to the Oberzeitlbach district .

geography

Unterzeitlbach is on State Road 2047 between Dachau and Aichach . The place has about 440 inhabitants (as of 2005). The neighboring village of Oberzeitlbach is two kilometers away.

history

Unterzeitlbach was first mentioned in 772 together with Oberzeitlbach in a document from the Bishop of Freising . This means that the two places are the earliest documented settlements in the Altomünster community . The document does not yet distinguish between Unter- and Oberzeitlbach - both places are called "Zidalpah".

The first reliable evidence of the name Unterzeitlbach can be found in an inventory of the Altomünster monastery from 1260. In it Unterzeitlbach is mentioned separately with the Latin name "inferior Zidelpach" (lower settlement on the Zeitlbach).

Unterzeitlbach has always belonged to the independent municipality of Oberzeitlbach in the Upper Bavarian district of Aichach . On July 1, 1972, as part of the regional reform in Bavaria, Oberzeitlbach and its districts came to the also Upper Bavarian district of Dachau. On January 1, 1976, the community of Oberzeitlbach was incorporated into the Altomünster market.

Zeitlbach

Unterzeitlbach is named after the Zeitlbach that flows past the place. The stream was once used by beekeepers (old term: Zeidler ) as a drinking place for wild bees. In a document from the Bishop of Freising from the year 772, Unterzeitlbach is referred to as "Zidalpah", which means "Bach of the beekeepers".

The Zeitlbach is 11.2 kilometers long. It has two springs located between Sielenbach and Pfaffenhofen (near Altomünster). The stream flows into the Glonn at Erdweg . The water connection extends over the Glonn, Amper , Isar and Danube to the Black Sea .

Chapel of St. Sebastian

At the entrance to Unterzeitlbach there is a small chapel dedicated to St. Sebastian . Sebastian was a Roman soldier and a Christian martyr. He publicly professed Christianity and was therefore cruelly killed in Rome in 288.

The chapel was first built in 1848 and 1849. The current building probably dates from 1890. In the center of the altar there is a sculpture of St. Sebastian, next to it there are figures of John the Baptist and St. Florian . To the left and right of the altar, two stone tablets commemorate the former inhabitants of Unterzeitlbach who fell in the two world wars.

In front of the chapel there has been a fountain with a statue of St. Anthony of Padua holding the baby Jesus in his arms since 2000 . The preacher Antonius (1195–1231) is said to have performed numerous miracles. In the Italian city of Rimini, for example, he preached a sermon to the fish on the seashore. You should have listened to him reverently.

Personalities

Bartholomäus Schmid (1803–1878) from the Unterzeitlbach farm "Hansbauer". He was pastor in Westerholzhausen (1838–1875) and donated the cast-iron market fountain in Altomünster, which is still in the center of the town today. The fountain got its current shape in 1878, the last year of Schmid's life.

regional customs

In the center of the place is a maypole , which is re-erected every three years. Every year on Holy Saturday the village youth organize a jaudus fire . On Father's Day , the football game fathers versus non-fathers is traditionally played on the Unterzeitlbach football pitch. For many years, a solstice fire was held in June between Stumpfenbach and Unterzeitlbach .
