Ust-Tschorna (Ukrainian Усть-Чорна ; Russian Усть-Чорная / Ust -Tschornaja ; German Königsfeld , Slovak Ustčorna , Hungarian Királymező ) is an urban-type settlement in western Ukraine . The place in the Tyachiv district has about 1500 inhabitants and is located at the confluence of the Mokryanka and the Brusturjanka , which continue to flow as Teresva and flow into the Tisza at Tyachiv .

The place stretches picturesquely in the middle of the mountains of the Gorgany in the course of the forest Carpathians , the access roads are, however, already very battered by many timber transports.

history

The place was founded in 1815 as a subsidiary of Deutsch-Mokra (today Nimezka Mokra ) by woodworkers from the Upper Austrian Salzkammergut . The village was laid out according to plan, as Deutsch-Mokra had become too small for all residents and the jobs of many villagers were further downstream on the Tereswa. About ten years after it was founded, the congregation was already larger than Deutsch-Mokra. Since the valley is very narrow at this point, the place was laid out as a row village. The residents were mainly forest workers. During the Czechoslovak era (1919–1938) the place became a small center of tourism, but the Second World War and the annexation to the Soviet Union brought this to an abrupt end.

Flood

In 1998 the place was also badly affected by the floods of the Tereswa River there. Since then, the place has been cut off from the Tereswatal forest railway , which has been extended into the place since 1928. For financial reasons, the railway company cannot afford a new connection route.

German-speaking place

Since Königsfeld was founded in 1815 from Deutsch-Mokra , the old Middle Bavarian dialect from the Salzkammergut was the language of most of the residents for a long time . After the Second World War, however, the Carpathian Ukraine and with it Königsfeld came to the Soviet Union. Many of the German-speaking residents were then subjected to massive repression, some were even deported to Siberia, and it was forbidden to speak the language of the enemy they had just defeated. As a result, the Salzkammergütler dialect of the German-speaking residents was largely displaced by Ukrainian over time . After the fall of the Wall, many families emigrated to Germany and Austria, which is why the number of speakers has decreased further, so that today there are only about 15 German-speaking families in Ust-Tschorna.
