Irshava (Ukrainian Іршава ; Russian Иршава , Hungarian Ilosva , Slovak Iršava ) is the name of a city in the Zakarpattia Oblast in western Ukraine .
The Carpathian town is located southeast of the district capital Uzhhorod on the river of the same name , a tributary of the Tisza , and is the administrative center of the Irschawa district . On September 30, 2016, the city became the center of the newly founded municipality of Irschawa (шршавська міська громада / Irschawska miska hromada ), which also includes the 2 villages Losa (Лоза) and Sobatyn (Собатин, together with the village Sobatyn the town council of the same name.
In 1341 the city was mentioned for the first time in writing as Makszemháza , after it was added to the Soviet Union in 1945, it was given the status of an urban-type settlement on May 30, 1947 , and since 1982 it has had town charter.
