Výrava ( Russian Вырава / Wyrawa , Hungarian Virava ) is a municipality in the Laboretzer Bergland ( Laborecká vrchovina ) in northern eastern Slovakia .
The municipality with a Russian majority is located twelve kilometers southeast of the district town of Medzilaborce at the foot of the Carpathian main ridge, which forms the border between Slovakia and Poland here. The Łupkow Pass (railway line Michalovce - Humenné -Medzilaborce- Sanok ) is only a few kilometers away from Výrava. The pass is the dividing line between the Carpathian parts of the Lower Beskids and Bukovské vrchy / Bieszczady . The highest peaks in the area are the Kobyla immediately west of the village (637 m above sea level) and the Vysoký grúň east of Výrava on the Polish border (904 m above sea level). The municipality is located on the Výrava river of the same name , which rises on the main Carpathian ridge and flows into the Laborec after about 20 kilometers in a southerly direction near Jabloň ( Okres Humenné ) .
Výrava is surrounded by the neighboring communities Čabalovce in the north, Oľšinkov in the east, Svetlice in the south and Valentovce in the west.
The main road from Medzilaborce to Snina , about 40 kilometers long, runs through Výrava and crosses several river valleys along the mountain foot.
The place was first mentioned in a document in 1557.
