The Victory Tour was a tour by the band The Jacksons . It began on July 6, 1984 at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City (USA) and ended on December 9 of the same year at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles . For the first time since 1975, Jermaine Jackson performed again with his brothers after leaving the band but rejoining in 1984. The 55 concerts (47 in the United States, 8 in Canada) were attended by over two million people, and with a profit of $ 75 million, the Victory tour became the most successful tour to date. The tour was characterized by Michael Jackson's now well-known trademarks : glitter glove and socks as well as the moonwalk and the sidewalk . Originally only 40 concerts were planned, but a further 15 were added later.

Prehistory and tour

After his hugely successful Thriller album , Michael Jackson was at the height of his career and originally wanted to start a solo tour. However, his mother, Katherine Jackson , asked him to start one last tour together with his brothers, who had become musically meaningless due to Michael's meteoric success. Michael Jackson accepted commercial losses and finally agreed to this proposal after some discussion.

On July 5, 1984, the day before the concerts began, Michael Jackson announced in a press conference that he would donate all of the proceeds he would earn from the tour.

"For me, that was what the 'Victory Tour' was about - giving something back."

In the end, more than 5 million US dollars were raised, all of which were donated to charity.

During the song "Shake Your Body (Down The Ground)" at the final concert at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, Michael Jackson announced that he was leaving the band "The Jacksons". This happened unannounced and had not been discussed with his brothers or his management, but was foreseeable in view of the previous events. Not only did the band slow down his success as a solo artist, the relationship between Michael Jackson and his brothers was also very tense throughout the tour. Soon they only communicated with each other through lawyers.
