history

Vockenrot was first mentioned in a document in 1212 under the name "Fockerode". The origin of the place name is not clearly established. As a possible explanation, the municipality itself cites the tradition that a junker named Focko had the forest cleared, so the name could mean “clearing of the Focko”.

At the beginning of the 14th century, the Klinkhardt family received the Vockenrot farm from the Counts of Wertheim as a fief. The Klinkhardt family died out in 1574, so the fiefdom went back to the fiefdom giver, who then managed it himself. Until 1806 Vockenrot belonged to the county of Wertheim. In 1806 Wertheim, which had now become a principality, was added to the Grand Duchy of Baden and Vockenrot belonged as an independent municipality in the Tauberbischofsheim district office to Baden until it was incorporated into the town of Wertheim in 1939. The reason for the incorporation of the agricultural village was the construction of an airfield with German barracks Air force on the neighboring Reinhardshof . Since the claimed area was partly in the Vockenroter district, it was incorporated into Wertheim. Vockenrot has been in the Main-Tauber district since January 1, 1973 , as the Tauberbischofsheim district was merged into the newly formed Main-Tauber district with the district reform .

On December 31, 2017, Vockenrot had 522 residents.
