Urphar (in dialect: Orfel ) is a town in the large district town of Wertheim in the Main-Tauber district of Baden-Württemberg in the administrative district of Stuttgart .

Urphar is 144 m above sea level. NHN on the left bank of the southeast loop of the Mainviereck . The area of the former municipality of Urphar includes the village of Urphar ( ⊙ ) and the Klosterweg residential area ( ⊙ ). The state road 2310 and the district road 2878 lead through the village .

history
775, first mention of Urphars ("urfare") as a founding property of the nearby Holzkirchen monastery. The tower of the medieval fortified church dates from the 10th century. Around 1100, Urphar comes into the possession of the Counts of Wertheim. Urphar was an independent municipality in the Tauberbischofsheim district until it was incorporated into Wertheim on January 1, 1972. Since January 1, 1973, Urphar has been in the Main-Tauber district . As of December 31, 2017, Urphar had 586 residents.

Urphar is influenced by Protestants. The Jakobskirche belongs to the Evangelical Church District Wertheim . The Catholics living here belong to the parish of the Hofgarten district of Wertheim ( deanery Tauberbischofsheim ).
