Welchenholz is a part of the municipality of Wilburgstetten in the district of Ansbach in Middle Franconia .

geography

The village is located on the Wörnitz , away from major roads, surrounded by meadows and forests. Welchenholz lies at an altitude of 440  m above sea level. NHN . While a slightly hilly landscape with a view of the Wörnitztal and the Hesselberg ( 689  m above sea level ) predominates in the north and east , the south and west are determined by the flat floodplain of the Wörnitz, which meanders through a wide meadow . Beyond the Wörnitz, the dark spruce trees of the Oettinger Forest rise up on the slope .

history

Historically, Welchenholz is more closely connected with Illenschwang than with Wilburgstetten, to whose parish it still belongs to today. There are no sources for either location that could indicate their origin. At the beginning of the Thirty Years War there were no more documents of the places. Pastor Meintel reports in a parish description from 1833: "Nothing can be said about the origins of the parish and the associated hamlet Welchenholz, as there are no reports about this either in the parish registry or in the parishes."

Welchenholz was in the Fraisch district of the Ansbach Oberamt Wassertrüdingen . Towards the end of the 18th century there were 11 subject families , all of whom had the imperial city of Dinkelsbühl as their landlord . From 1797 to 1808 the place was subordinate to the Justice and Chamber Office Wassertrüdingen .

With the community edict (early 19th century) Welchenholz was assigned to the tax district Villersbronn and the rural community Sinbronn . At its own request, it was incorporated into the Illenschwang rural community on October 1, 1827 . This political connection was dissolved with effect from July 1, 1972 in the course of a regional reform. The Welchenholzer could choose whether they wanted to be integrated into Weiltingen or Wilburgstetten. They decided on Wilburgstetten. Since Wilburgstetten is strongly influenced by Catholicism, the Evangelical Welchenholz remained with the parish of Illenschwang.

economy

Welchenholz was dominated by agriculture until the late 1970s. What remained were three full-time and two part-time businesses. There is an inn in the village. Most of the residents get their income from the factories in Wilburgstetten, Dinkelsbühl or Sinbronn.

Tourism and leisure

Which wood is hardly developed for tourism, there are no public overnight accommodations in the village itself. The place is located in the Hesselberg holiday region and not far from the Romantic Road (B 25). Two tourist cycle paths lead through the town: the Wörnitz cycle path and the Karpfenlandroute. You can fish in the Wörnitz. There are various sights in the immediate vicinity, including the Hesselberg, the Franconian Lake District near Gunzenhausen and the old imperial cities of Nördlingen, Dinkelsbühl, Feuchtwangen and Rothenburg ob der Tauber. The Welchenholz volunteer fire brigade is particularly proud of its fire engine from 1862.

traffic

Municipal roads lead to Illenschwang on state road 2218 , to Limburg and past the Neumühle to Weiltingen .
