Protection purpose

According to the Protected Area Ordinance, the main protection purpose is “the preservation, maintenance and promotion of a fauna-rich and landscape-defining fen with the extensive use of meadows adapted to it. Its regional, supraregional and international function as a breeding and resting place for numerous migratory bird species, as a habitat for rare and highly endangered meadow breeders and as a habitat for amphibians must be preserved. The fauna and especially the flora of the Moosburger wood should also be preserved. "

Landscape character

The character of the protected area is mainly determined by the meadow areas of the Miesach used as grassland and the wet and wet meadows west of Moosburg. To the north of Moosburg lies the Moosburger Wäldchen, a succession forest with moor birches, willows and spruces that grew up in a former peat cut.
