action

Nils and Karola are supporters of the Bielefeld conspiracy and are active in a group of ten called "The Analysts". They recorded a video at night showing men and trucks in the woods. Nils is convinced that they are now in danger because they are about to expose the Bielefeld conspiracy. He therefore visits Wilsberg in order to engage him as a private investigator and bodyguard. Wilsberg thinks Nils is a nut, but Nils manages to arouse Ekki's interest. Nils entrusts Ekki, whom he has known for years from the football team in the Münsterland village of Horsthausen, with his video camera with the recordings from the forest, as it is no longer safe with him. When Wilsberg and Ekki go to Erdel's apartment together at his insistence, Nils lies on the street in front of the house and is reanimated by Miriam Zubert. The arriving emergency doctors can only determine death, they suspect a heart attack .

Meanwhile, Manni Höch's office in the Bielefeld building department is broken into. Manni catches the masked intruder in the act, but he escapes undetected. Since nothing was stolen, the motive for the break-in remains initially unclear. All that remains of the intruder is a note with the name and address of Nils Erdel in Münster. Höch makes his way to Münster to tell his former classmate Wilsberg about the break-in in his office. The two inspectors then visit Anna Springer and are reluctant to persuade her to have Nils Erdel's body autopsied . The autopsy report reveals that he had received an injection whose active ingredient caused fatal increases in blood pressure and heart rate.

Wilsberg and Ekki gain access to Nils' apartment, where they not only find loads of medication, but also documents about the Bielefeld conspiracy. The two are surprised by Karola, who met Nils as a nurse in the psychiatry.

Overbeck is meanwhile also infected by the idea of the Bielefeld conspiracy. He and Anna Springer go to Nils Erdel's apartment to look for the video recordings that Wilsberg spoke about. Dominik, who is also in Erdel's apartment to make his medication disappear, is surprised by Overbeck, injects a large amount of hallucinogenic liquid into his face and then escapes. As a result of this attack, Overbeck is in different unrealistic states for the rest of the episode.

At Nils' funeral in a forest cemetery, Ekki discovers two suspects who are watching the funeral from a distance. When he points this out to Karola, she takes flight and falls from a bridge to her death. Dominik denies online that he had anything to do with it. Wilsberg looks for Dominik in his caravan, which is parked in a hall in Münster's Haverkamp at the harbor, and discovers that Dominik had merchandising articles made on the subject of the Bielefeld conspiracy. Dominik does not believe in the Bielefeld conspiracy at all, but wants to capitalize on the beliefs of others. Karola had stolen the medication from the clinic for him, which kept Nils in an unstable state of madness, so that he would continue to fuel the conspiracy theory.

It turns out that the blue trucks featured in Nils' videos belong to Dralling Chemie. Years ago, the family who owned it, the Zubert, submitted an application to the city of Münster to build a sewage treatment plant for dioxins, which Manni had rejected at the time. The expert commissioned by Manni in this process, Dr. Ferdinand Grohe from the Institute for Soil Analysis, like Nils Erdel, also died recently. Like Erdel, he suffered a heart attack after breaking into his office. By Grohe's report threatened to fly up that the company Dralling years in the forests of their waste by Frank Albers dump was. Miriam Zubert tried to prevent this by having the report exchanged in Grohe's office. In addition, she had the barrels with the toxins removed from the forests at night. These were the trucks filmed by Nils Erdel.

Miriam Zubert was physically attacked by Albers years ago after her father, who had entered into the deal with Albers, refused to comply with his demands. Her own daughter took her to a boarding school and tried to protect Nils. Finally, Ekki and Manni, Albers' most dangerous witnesses, are locked in a silo in the Dralling factory, which he has filled with highly concentrated hydrochloric acid. When Wilsberg arrives, he is also threatened by Albers, but Commissioner Springer can arrest him immediately.

After the end of the case, Manni returns to Bielefeld, accompanied by Wilsberg and Ekki, where Ekki is convinced of the existence of the city - but the paternoster of the building authority continues to puzzle him.

With the consequences of Lack of Evidence and The Bielefeld Conspiracy , two ZDF television films were linked for the first time in terms of content through an interactive online offering in cross-media style. A similar project was started in 2011 under the name "eScript", in which viewers were given the opportunity to influence the plot of an episode.

The plot loosely ties in with the previous episode Wilsberg: For lack of evidence , from which Nils Erdel, played by Daniel Roesner , only appears again in a supporting role. To the 14th episode Angel of Death was Heinrich Schafmeister seen as Manfred Hoch in every episode, was transferred to the Office of Construction and Urban Development to Bielefeld to his role. Others

Overbeck quotes the saying "The answer is out there somewhere" known from the US TV series X-Files - The Scary Cases of the FBI .

The running gag "Bielefeld" refers in this episode to the eponymous Bielefeld conspiracy , which, according to ZDF editor Martin R. Neumann, is "the highlight of our permanent Bielefeld homage".

In a scene in front of the entrance to the stairwell to Frank Alber's apartment, the names “Boerne” and “Thiel” can be read in the background by the doorbell signs . This is a hidden homage by ZDF to the crime series Tatort by ARD , in which the coroner Prof. Dr. Dr. Karl-Friedrich Boerne, played by Jan Josef Liefers , at the side of Chief Detective Frank Thiel, played by Axel Prahl , investigate in Münster. The two apartments in this series are also in a shared tenement house.

criticism

The lexicon of international films judges the episode to be a “sedate, amusing crime thriller as part of a (television) series that thinks through a stubborn city rivalry with deadly consequences”.

Torben Gebhardt from quotenmeter.de is of the opinion that the episode is an "entertaining, albeit sometimes very silly TV film". The renewed appearance of Heinrich Schafmeister was rated positively, because "these scenes in which Manni and Ekki fight for the favor of their Wilsbergs are a real treat of the entire film and are worth watching". The play between Lansink , Korittke , Russek and Jankowsky is “as usual” and makes the episode “worthwhile”. "The guest stars play skillfully [...] and credibly." It was positively emphasized that the series does not claim to take itself "deadly serious" at all times, which is why after the more serious case, for lack of evidence, it is now again "easy and relaxed", nevertheless "entertaining entertainment" is offered.

According to TV Spielfilm , the "very confused episode that gets bogged down in silly theories" is based on a "confused script that too often loses its thread". One small consolation is: "After all: the final gag was really successful."

According to Rainer Tittelbach, this “weird case” is not a “classic crime thriller”, but a “playful, well-cast nonsense film”. The episode is the "most abstruse story since the Christmas special Oh you fatal ... ". “The story and the plot are equally crazy” and “anything but what you would call a well-rounded crime thriller”.

The West writes: "To be taken seriously" is not the "lousy entertainment", "but it is quite amusing".
