Windows-1256 is an 8-bit character encoding of the Windows operating system. It is based on Windows-1252 and, in contrast to ISO 8859-6 , completely covers Arabic , Persian and Urdu and also contains all vowel characters. The character set also contains numerous lowercase letters for spelling French , primarily to facilitate communication in the Maghreb region . As of July 2016, 0.1% of all websites use Windows-1256, ISO-8859-6 is used by less than 0.1%.
