Windows-1251 is an 8-bit code page for representing languages ​​in the Cyrillic alphabet such as Russian . It is also widely used for Bulgarian .

Windows-1251 and KOI8-R (or its Ukrainian variant KOI8-U ) are much more common than ISO 8859-5 . In the future, they could be replaced by UTF-8 ( Unicode ). In January 2019, 1.0% of all websites use Windows-1251, ISO-8859-5 is used by less than 0.1%.
