Дд Дд

The De ( Д and д ) is a Cyrillic letter that is usually used for the phoneme [d], the voiced alveolar plosive , apart from the end of the word, where it changes to [t] as a result of the final hardening , as well as before a palatalizing vowel, where it is pronounced as / dʲ / .

It is derived directly from the Greek Delta ; the most significant difference is that it still has two small "feet" below the baseline. Like the El , it has two graphic variants: one where its tip is square and one where it is pointed (like the delta).

Handwritten variant

In manuscripts there is a separate form of the letter that looks like a Latin capital D , which is probably due to the fact that the capital letter used in print cannot be written quickly enough. The lowercase letter, on the other hand, looks more like a lowercase g , which is connected to the next letter by its tip. In addition, the lowercase letter has its own italic form, which in turn resembles a lowercase Latin d , or is identical to the rounded one in partial derivatives .
