The Ұ, ұ [⁠ ʊ ⁠] is a letter of the Cyrillic alphabet and is only in the Kazakh language used in the alphabet he is the 27th letter. It represents a rounded closed back vowel , similar to a short U , as this letter would be used in the Latin transcription. In the Arabic alphabet, the Ұ is represented as وُ .

This letter can easily be confused with the character ¥ , which, depending on the font, is also written with just a single slash.

In Polish, the (capital) Latin Ұ (not in Unicode) is an alternative spelling for Y.
