Wolfram Kühn (Admiral)

Wolfram Kühn (born November 7, 1952 in Bad Schwartau ) is a retired Vice Admiral . D. of the German Navy and was inspector of the armed forces base and deputy inspector general of the Bundeswehr from April 27, 2006 to March 28, 2012 .

Military background

Training and first uses

Kühn joined the Bundeswehr in 1972 as an officer candidate in the German Navy . In 1973 he was promoted to lieutenant at sea . This was followed by a degree in economics and organizational sciences at the University of the Federal Armed Forces in Hamburg , which he graduated in 1977 with a degree in business administration. During this time he was promoted to first lieutenant in 1976 .

After completing his studies, Kühn was transferred to the destroyer Schleswig-Holstein with its home port in Wilhelmshaven , where he served as a locating officer from 1977 to 1979. In 1979 he was promoted to lieutenant captain and transferred to Kiel . There he was employed from 1979 to 1982 as an adjutant to the commander of the Schleswig-Holstein Territorial Command and at the same time German representative in the Allied Forces Northern Europe (AFNORTH) division of NATO . After this staff deployment, it went back to Wilhelmshaven, where Kühn served as a ship supply officer on the frigate Rhineland-Palatinate from 1982 to 1984 . Eventually he was transferred to Hamburg and completed the 26th admiral staff course at the command academy of the Bundeswehr from 1984 to 1986 and was promoted to corvette captain after completing it .

Service as a staff officer

From 1986 to 1987 Kühn served as lecture director and head of inspection at the naval supply school in List . In the following year, Kühn was again deployed to the Schleswig-Holstein Territorial Command and German authorized representative AFNORTH in Kiel until 1989, this time as a logistics staff officer ( G4 ). This was followed by a position as a Bundeswehr planning officer in the naval command staff (FüM) in the Bonn Federal Ministry of Defense . In 1990 Kühn was promoted to frigate captain and until 1991 also took over the post of staff officer in the Bonn Ministry until 1991 with the chief of staff in the command staff of the armed forces (FüS), Peter Haarhaus .

From 1991 to 1993 Kühn was employed as teaching group commander and deputy commander of the naval supply school in List. He then completed postgraduate studies from 1997 to 1998 at the National War College in Washington, DC , from which he completed a Master of Science degree in National Security Strategy .

From 1998 to 2001 Kühn was employed as head of the division for fundamental matters of logistics and traffic and transport in the command staff of the armed forces (FüS V 1) and the armed forces base (FüSKB II 1, independent military organizational area set up in October 2000) in Bonn.

Service as an admiral

In 2001 Kühn was finally appointed Flotilla Admiral and until 2002 was transferred to Cologne-Wahn as Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces Support Command under the command of Ulf von Krause . From 2002 to 2004 he served as a department head in the command staff of the Navy under the command of the chief of staff, Jörg Auer . In 2004 Kühn was finally appointed Rear Admiral himself and on February 12 of the same year took over from Egon Ramms the post of Chief of Staff in the Command Staff of the Armed Forces. He handed this position over to Manfred Engelhardt on April 20, 2006 .

After Hans-Heinrich Dieter's early retirement in January 2006, Kühn took over the post of Inspector of the Armed Forces and Deputy Inspector General of the German Armed Forces on April 27, 2006, with the appointment of Vice Admiral from the interim position holder Johann-Georg Dora . Wolfram Kühn handed over his office to Vice Admiral Manfred Nielson on March 28, 2012 and was retired with a big tattoo .
