Root Jesse Window (Groslay)
The Wurzel-Jesse window in the Catholic parish church of St-Martin in Groslay , a municipality in the Val-d'Oise department of the French region of Île-de-France , is a stained glass window from 1572 that is protected as a cultural monument ( Monument historique ).
The year of origin of the window is known from a lost inscription. Another window from the same workshop, probably made from the same box , is in the Saint-Ythier church in Sully-sur-Loire .

The root of Jesse is a widespread pictorial motif in Christian art of the Middle Ages and early modern times. The family tree of Christ is shown in the form of a tree that grows out of the figure of Jesse , the father of King David . Jesse is shown asleep and the following branches of the tree appear to David and another eleven kings of Israel . The conclusion is the representation of Mary with child.
