Yankeetown is a city in Levy County in the US state of Florida with 502 inhabitants (as of 2010).

geography

Yankeetown is bordered to the west by the Gulf of Mexico , to the north by Waccasassa Bay Preserve State Park , to the west by the city of Inglis and to the south by the Withlacoochee River . The city is about 50 km south of Bronson and about 180 km southwest of Jacksonville .

Demographic data

According to the 2010 census, the 502 inhabitants at the time were distributed over 560 households, most of which are holiday homes used as second homes. The population density was 25.4 inh / km². 97.4% of the population identified themselves as whites, 0.2% as Indians and 0.2% as Asian Americans . 2.2% said they belonged to several ethnic groups. 1.8% of the population was made up of Hispanics or Latinos .

In 2010 children under the age of 18 and 47.5% of all households lived in 12.9% of all households with persons at least 65 years of age. 65.4% of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or one parent with offspring). The average household size was 2.09 people and the average family size was 2.50 people.

13.8% of the population were younger than 20 years, 13.0% were 20 to 39 years old, 24.8% were 40 to 59 years old, and 48.6% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 59 years. 52.0% of the population were male and 48.0% were female.

The median annual income was $ 40,313, with 21.4% of the population living below the poverty line.

In 2000, English was the first language of 99.34% of the population and French spoke 0.66%.
