Chiefland is a city in Levy County in the US state of Florida with 2245 inhabitants (as of 2010).

Chiefland is about 20 km west of Bronson and about 150 km southwest of Jacksonville .

Demographic data

According to the 2010 census, the then 2245 inhabitants were distributed over 1029 households. The population density was 139.4 inh / km². 61.5% of the population identified themselves as whites , 30.7% as African American , 0.3% as Indians and 1.7% as Asian Americans . 2.4% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 3.5% to several ethnic groups. 6.6% of the population was made up of Hispanics or Latinos .

In 2010 children under the age of 18 and 28.2% of all households lived in 38.6% of all households with persons at least 65 years of age. 61.7% of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or a parent with offspring). The average household size was 2.47 people and the average family size was 3.10 people.

32.4% of the population were younger than 20 years, 24.7% were 20 to 39 years old, 23.3% were 40 to 59 years old, and 19.7% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 34 years. 45.6% of the population were male and 54.4% were female.

The median annual income was $ 22,210, with 40.8% of the population living below the poverty line.

In 2000, English was the first language of 93.14% of the population, 5.47% spoke Spanish and 1.39% spoke Tagalog .

The crime rate in 2010 was 786 points (US average: 266 points) in the high range. There were four personal injuries, 115 break-ins, 120 thefts and 41 car thefts.
