Yūhi Sekiguchi

Yūhi Sekiguchi ( Japanese 関口 雄飛 , Sekiguchi Yūhi ; born December 29, 1987 in Nakano ) is a Japanese racing car driver . He won the Japanese Formula 3 Championship in 2011 .

Sekiguchi began his motorsport career in karting , in which he was active until 2003. In 2004 he made his debut in formula racing and competed in two races in the Asian Formula Renault . In 2005 he competed in Formula Toyota and came in fifth overall. In addition, he again took part in a race of the Asian Formula Renault. In 2006, Sekiguchi stayed in Formula Toyota and won the championship. He also won the championship title of the Japanese Formula Challenge. In 2007, Sekiguchi moved to the Japanese Formula 3 championship at Now Motorsport . With a podium placement, he reached seventh place overall. He also started in the Super GT and ended the season with a win in tenth place in the GT300 classification.

In 2008 Sekiguchi moved to Europe and started in the international Formula Master for Euronova Racing . He scored twelve points and finished in sixteenth place in the overall standings at the end of the season. Sekiguchi also took part in a Super GT race. In Shanghai , Sekiguchi started the GP2 Asia Series season 2008/09 as Michael Herck's team-mate for David Price Racing . After one race he was replaced by Giacomo Ricci .

In 2009 Sekiguchi returned to the Japanese Formula 3 Championship. He finished third once with AIM Sports and won the national class three times. He finished the season in fifth place in the national class. He also took part in four Super GT races and came 22nd in the GT300 classification. In 2010, Sekiguchi stayed in the Japanese Formula 3 Championship and competed for ThreeBond Racing . Although he did not succeed in victory, with eleven podium finishes he was runner-up behind Yūji Kunimoto . In addition, he entered the Super GT again and ended the season in ninth place in the GT300 classification. In 2011 Sekiguchi entered the Japanese Formula 3 championship for the second race weekend and started for B-MAX Engineering . He won six races and was champion with 100 to 99 points ahead of Hironobu Yasuda , who had contested every race. He also took part in the Macau Grand Prix for Mücke Motorsport , where he finished fourth. In addition, he started again in Super GT races and came 13th in the GT300 classification.

In 2012, Sekiguchi was only active in the Super GT. With one win he reached sixth place in the GT300 classification. In 2013, Sekiguchi was promoted to the GT500 class in the Super GT. For MOLA he started together with Satoshi Motoyama . The two finished the season on the twelfth championship course. He also took part in two Formula 3 individual races and two Japanese Formula 3 races. In 2014, Sekiguchi switched to Lexus Team WedsSport BANDOH within the Super GT . He formed a team there with Juichi Wakisaka . The two reached the 15th championship course. In 2015, Sekiguchi and Wakisaka competed again for the Lexus Team WedsSport BANDOH in the Super GT and finished eleventh in the drivers' championship. In addition, Sekiguchi took part in two events of the Japanese Formula 3 Championship for the B-Max Racing Team.

In 2016 , Sekiguchi received a cockpit for Team Impul in the Super Formula . After a third place in the third race at Fuji , his first victory in Motegi followed . He achieved another victory in Sugō . As the best newcomer, he finished the season on the third championship course. In addition, he drove again for Lexus Team WedsSport Bandoh in the Super GT. There he won a race with his new teammate Yūji Kunimoto and was fourth in the overall standings.
