The Long Range Engagement Weapon (LREW), is an air-to-air two stage missile program being developed by Raytheon tentatively named Peregrine. The new missile is to be half the size and weight of AMRAAM and AIM-9X, just 6 foot long airframe weighs just over 150 pound, but has greater range and effectiveness at a lower cost.<ref>https://www.raytheonmissilesanddefense.com/capabilities/products/peregrine-missile#:~:text=The%20Peregrine%E2%84%A2%20missile%20is,manned%20aircraft%20and%20cruise%20missiles.&text=They%20are%20also%20lighter%2C%20effectively,current%20fighter%20jets%20can%20carry.</ref> Designed to be used against drones, manned aircraft, and cruise missiles, it is compatible with fourth- and fifth-generation fighter aircraft. According to Raytheon, the Peregrine weapon is faster and more maneuverable than the present inventory of medium-range, air-to-air missiles and boasts an advanced, miniaturized sensor, guidance, and propulsion systems for detecting and tracking moving or stationary targets at any time of day and in any weather condition.<ref>https://www.flightglobal.com/raytheon-unveils-peregrine-new-medium-range-air-to-air-missile/134340.article</ref> Peregrine reportedly has a multi-mode autonomous seeker that includes infrared imaging technology. Peregrine is being developed with Raytheon’s own funds, and company officials said. Peregrine is not aimed at a specific stated requirement from the Air Force or Navy.<ref>https://www.airforcemag.com/raytheon-unveils-new-air-to-air-missile/</ref> The Peregrine is not associated with the joint Air and Navy program, the AIM-260, that is designed to replace the AMRAAM, and that Lockheed Martin is the prime contractor. <ref>https://www.airforcemag.com/air-force-seeking-faster-longer-range-air-to-air-missiles/</ref>
