The 58th season of the Austrian handball championship began in August 2018. The reigning champions of the 2017/18 season is the handball club Fivers Margareten .
Handball League Austria
Ten teams are represented in the top division, the spusu league. The championship is divided into several phases. In the main round, all teams play a simple round trip against each opponent. After that, the league is divided into two groups.
The first five teams play in a further round-trip for placement in the HLA quarter-finals. The last five teams play for the first three places, which also qualify for the quarter-finals. The qualification will also be played in a round trip. The two worst-placed teams play a best-of-three series against relegation.

Placement round
The first five teams in the main round played in a further round-trip for the voting order for the HLA quarter-finals. The last five teams played for the first three places which also qualified for the quarter finals. The qualification is also played out in a round trip. The two worst-placed teams play a best-of-three series against relegation. Each team started the placement round with halved points from the main round; odd numbers were rounded up.

Spusu Liga quarter finals
All participants in the bonus round and the first three in the qualifying round are qualified for the quarter-finals. The top four in the bonus round can choose their placement based on their opponents. Everything is played in best of three series, the winners of the quarter-finals advance to the semi-finals.
